“No, it doesn’t.” Vince snaps and I turn my gaze back to him, irritated.

“What do you think Drew is short for, you moron?”

His cheeks pinken slightly and he lowers his head. I wish I hadn’t said his name because I was curious if Scarlett actually knew it. “He left you for someone else?” she asks, but it sounds more like a statement.

“That’s the story,” I whisper.

“Hmmm…it won’t last. He’ll be back, honey. They always come back.”

“I’m not sure I want him back.”

“Of course not, he’s a Virgo. No good for a Pisces.” She points at me. “You probably had some good kinky sex but it wasn’t meant for long term. A Virgo- Pisces romance is like shooting stars, bright and intense but fizzle out quickly.”

“How did you—” I start and shake my head, wondering if this woman really is the real deal.

“And you’re a water sign…a Scorpio to be exact.” She points at Vince. “This is probably why you have such chemistry. You two are highly compatible. Though, in your case, it seems more like opposites attract. Conflict turned passion. Tale as old as time with you two. You’re moody and stubborn, possessive even.” There’s a gleam in her eye as she gestures towards Vince and then she smiles. “It’s strange, though, should you marry you’ll have to overcome your differences. Love-hate relationships can be strong at first but they can be exhausting in the long run.”

“I’m sorry, when did we get married?” Vince asks.

“Hmmm, I see you two at a wedding. Not yours though. Well, maybe yours.” She smirks but she shakes her head. “No, this is for someone else and soon…your friend.” She points at me. “The one that gave you the plant?”

“Charley?”

“Yes, she’s getting married…again?”

Holy shit!

“Ummm, yeah, next month.”

“You’re her date?” She asks Vince and he shoots a look at me before turning back to Scarlett.

“No?”

“Hmmm, interesting. There’s still time though.” She smiles before turning back to me. “So, you’ve only had sex the one time then?”

“Okay, this is not why we’re here,” Vince interjects before I can answer…and surprisingly I was going to answer. I’m curious to hear what she has to say about me and Vince. Even if I don’t believe it, she does, and I want to know what she thinks she can see in us.

“She said she wanted your palm read.”

“And you’re not holding her palm!” he snaps.

“Fine, give me.” She holds her hand out and I slide mine into hers and she turns it upwards, running her fingers over the skin. “So soft.”

“Thank you?” I smile as she lowers her glasses over her eyes again. “Okay, you’ve got strong lines. See this here? This is your heart line, some people call it your love line, but different strokes for different readers.” She points at me as she traces the line from the edge of my hand towards my index finger. Yours is long which I could have seen coming because hello, Pisces and also, you seem like a sweet girl. So, you see, your heart line ends here, right at the Mount of Jupiter which means you have an abundance of love to give but some high expectations.”

“High maintenance, more like.” Vince crosses his arms.

“It means she loves hard but doesn’t take any shit.” Scarlett’s eyes snap to Vince and stares him down before turning back to me. “I hope he at least made you come, dear.”

“Oh, she came alright,” he mumbles and I kick him under the table.

“God, Vince, shutup!” I growl, causing Scarlett to snicker under her breath.

She goes on to read my life, head, marriage, and children lines telling me that I’m high energy, good at sports and vigorous activities, good at thinking, considerate of others, bold and exuberant, but I am easy to become ‘a dragon lady.’ I’m also predicted to have two marriages and all girls.

The rest of the visit is pretty similar to the beginning with Vince questioning everything she says and Scarlett snapping back in the sassiest ways.

I kind of like her.
