We do get some quality information about the bodies she helped discover and some of her other predictions but I can’t stop fixating on what she predicted for me…and oddly enough the infuriating man next to me.

“Did you buy all that shit?” Vince asks the second the door closes behind us and we start down her walkway towards his car.

“She did know a lot. How else would she know we slept together?”

“Because you’re staring at me with stars in your eyes?” He grins, pulling at his lips.

“I think you’re confusing stars with a look of disgust, but okay, Vince.” We walk down the path towards the car when I stop in my tracks. “She knew about the plant. And Drew and…that I’m going to Charley’s wedding. Hersecondwedding.”

“Yeah, about that, she’s already on wedding number two? What’s wrong with her? We’re barely thirty.”

“Nothing! And don’t be a dick. Her first husband…Matt was…” I scrunch my nose trying to figure out the best way to explain my best friend’s ex-husband. Matt was manipulative. He didn’t want to be married. He cared more about his job than he did about her.” The list is endless, but I’m not interested in getting into the gritty details with Vince.

“Hmmm.” He leans over the car and stares at me. “Sounds like she’s a little needy.”

“Sounds like you’re a little judgmental.” I open his passenger door and climb in. When I look towards the house, my eyes tracing it from top to bottom, I note Scarlett at the window. She shoots me a wave and if I’m not mistaken, a wink.

“You want to grab something to eat?” Vince’s voice breaks the silence that we’ve been sitting in the past ten minutes as we drive back to the city.

“I thought you had tickets to the game?”

“Fuck.” He presses his hand to his forehead. “I completely forgot. I’ve already canceled on her twice.”

Her.

“Her? Like a girlfriend?”

“You jealous?” There’s something in his voice I can’t quite pinpoint.Annoyance…or hope?

“No, but circling back to your tongue in my ass thing? If you have a girlfriend, that makes you the worst.” I cross my arms and stare at him, trying to convince my brain that I donotfind him attractive despite what my hormones are saying.

He chuckles and shakes his head, and I’m instantly furious for letting myself get involved with this narcissist. “Not a girlfriend. We have mutual friends. We went out once. It’s casual.”

“But you’ve fucked her?” The words spill out of my mouth like word vomit.

Fuck. I cannot be jealous. I cannot be feeling territorial over a guy that I fucked once and spent the last few months calling every name in the book.

“Who wants to know?”

“I’m just asking.” I try to appear unfazed but I know everything about my body language reads differently.

“Well, since you and I were only a one-time thing, I don’t think you’re entitled to that information.” His words are somewhat harsh, but I note his dimple popping out beneath his beard.

“So yes.” I roll my eyes.

“She sucked my dick in the bathroom of this club. That’s it.” He shrugs.

I try to ignore the annoyance over this piece of information bubbling in my gut but it’s no use and I can feel myself shutting down by the second. “So, you’rethatguy? The one who gets off hooking up with women in clubs and…bars?” I shoot him a side eye and he rolls his.

“What do you care?”

I don’t answer, because I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t.

Fuck, what kind of witchcraft did Scarlett do on me that I’m all of a sudden…
