‘Me too. I don’t think I’ll get much sleep. I’ll be wide awake listening for water getting in.’

‘That’s not why you won’t be sleeping.’ Rhona winked.

‘Incorrigible, you are.’ Calum put the last plate away, then grabbed her hand and pulled her close, dipping in to kiss her cheek.

She clamped his butt and held him tight against her. ‘There’s no keeping a good man down, is there?’ She waggled her eyebrows.

‘Let’s get in.’ He jumped under the covers. Rhona followed on the other side and soon they were cosied up again. He closed his eyes and nuzzled into her hair. ‘If we’re going to drown at least I get to die happy.’

She prodded his shoulder. ‘That’s not funny.’

He tugged her as close as possible and kissed her forehead. ‘Let’s see if we manage any sleep.’

Rhona circled her fingertips across the planes of his back. ‘I’m definitely not tired.’

‘Christ, you’re high maintenance.’

‘Aren’t I just.’

He rolled her over, shifting on top. Her skin was soft and warm, inviting him to come and indulge. He showered her with kisses, a lifetime’s worth. Ones he’d been saving forever until the right person came along, and here she was, right here.

They rocked together with the boat, upping the tempo, then slowing as the wind came to a crescendo around them. When every ounce of ecstasy had been milked from his system, he flopped onto her, shattered enough to sleep for a week.

Calum opened his eyes. Rhona was spooned in his arms and the boat was still. He sat up and listened for a few moments. Gently prising himself from her, he slipped to the bathroom, before giving the boat a quick check, listening for rushing water.

He pulled on a t-shirt and his sports shorts and headed outside. The murky sea and the nearby island were visible in the early morning haze. He checked the time on his phone. It was just before four. They would leave in a few hours.

Wanting to make the most of this time with Rhona, he shuffled behind her, warming himself on her soft skin. She moaned and snuggled in. Slowly, he drifted back to sleep.

The next time he opened his eyes, someone was kissing his throat, then his chest. He gave a soft moan.No one has ever wanted me this much.Did he deserve it? There must be something amiss if a Lamond was making him feel this good…Too damn good. Not after what he’d done to Arran. None of the objections he’d voiced last night were as important as that one. He wasn’t a safe man to be around. They were right to hate him. What if he snapped like that again and hurt her? ‘No,’ he groaned.

‘You want me to stop?’ Rhona looked up, her blue irises twinkling in the pale light.

‘No.’ The word was barely out when she kissed him again, starting on the centre of his ribcage, working her way towards his navel.

Shit. Help.He never wanted to hurt her. Not Rhona. He threaded his fingers into her hair and his eyelids dropped as she worked her way further down his body, kissing and stroking him in places no one had ever kissed him before. Conscious thought drifted away and he tumbled into paradise.

They didn’t get out of bed as early as he’d imagined.

‘Does the shower work?’ asked Rhona.

‘Of course, why?’

‘Just checking.’

‘Well, if it’s broken, you could try skinny dipping instead. I’ll sit on deck and watch.’

Rhona chucked a cushion at him. ‘If I’m skinny dipping, so are you.’

‘Shower it is then. There’s no danger I’m swimming in there.’

‘You’re so funny. Can I make that another mission? To get you skinny dipping?’

‘Definitely not.’

After he’d washed and put on clean clothes, he started the boat’s engine. The storm had cleared the air and sun split the sky. Rhona dotted around on deck, coming in and out now and then to chat. Her company was like her cuddles. It wrapped up his heart and warmed it. He was the most special man in the universe.
