“She’ll kill you,” she said in a raspy whisper.

“Excuse me if I don’t take the words of a broken wolf to heart. Between you, the fangless vampire, and the blind witch, well… not exactly the smartest group.”

“Smarter than you’ll ever be,” she taunted. It seems I had finally shaken the girl. I was a little disappointed, in truth. She’d held out too long to give up now.

Ignoring her failed barb, I went back to the mirror. A map appeared on the screen above them, and I was a bit impressed at how much they’d uncovered. Were Straya’s wards failing or were they somehow smarter than I’d given them credit for? It seemed we had to take extra precautions. I wouldn’t lose all I’ve built to some mismatched pack with a chip on their shoulder.

“Guards!” I called out, waiting until they stepped inside. “Bring me my mates!” They were kept down the hall in a single room barely bigger than a cell. I didn’t care about conditions, they were a tool and a place to wet my dick, nothing more. I’d dedicated my life to growing this pack. My goal was to take over the supernatural realm, to show those useless vampires that they did not in fact win. I’d saved them for last, knowing they wouldn’t put things together fast enough to stop me. And my plan had worked flawlessly.

Until Vanya.

Even if they banded together now, it wouldn’t save them. We had too much magic and strength on our side to lose. And more than that, we knew how to use it properly. We didn’t bury our heads in the sand here, I grew this pack, used the others to boost my numbers, and now my pack was the biggest there hadeverbeen. And once I had them all under my thumb, we’d move on to the real target… the humans who lived in ignorance. They outnumbered us by far too many, but we had the power to overtake them with ease. I wouldn’t stop until I crushed their power trip, ended it for good. No one… especially not insignificant powerless humans, would ever be above me again.

I heard the door open and close but I didn’t bother to acknowledge my mates, watching as the news unfolded as Torryn read my little note. Vanya’s face crumpled and satisfaction warmed my chest.

“It looks like your sister is just as broken as you are now,” I called out to Meira. She barely gave a reaction. “I guess finding out that you were sold to me, that you started this entire operation unknowingly, was just too much.” My feigned sadness had her head snapping up, fury in her eyes.

“Don’t put that on us, you asshole,” she seethed. “We were not sold to you.”

“Oh, but your former alpha? He put that lowly Crescent Falls Pack before you, sold me two girls that were mine for the taking when they were of mating age,” I explained with a grin. “He promised me you were some of the strongest wolves he’d seen. And he said that you would be the mostfunto break. It seems he was right.” My focus changed to her and I walked closer, crouching down. She tried to drag her broken legs out of reach but couldn’t manage. I reached in pushing down on the useless limbs until her screams filled the air. She had yet to show me tears, but this time they fell freely before she started to lose consciousness. Only then did I let up.

I stood back up and went to my mates. Three witches that I had claimed over the years. They all had collars around their necks spelled by Straya’s magic, keeping them docile until I needed them. They looked at me with disgust and a hint of fear.

“The battle starts tomorrow, my loves. So you get to spend the night with me,” I said. This time I didn’t have to fake the excitement, this would be an enjoyable night of pain and fucking, my two favorite things.

The venom in their faces gave way to resignation as I led them to my room. Most nights, I didn’t care about an audience, but if I was going to be at my best tomorrow, my strongest, then I’d need all night, and that would require my bed.

“Prepare yourselves, ladies, it’s going to be a long night.”

ChapterSeventeen

Vanya

There was something humbling about seeing how many supernaturals had come to our aid. So many packs have joined our side, including Zoey’s pack. It was nice to have them around again, even under these circumstances. Our packs were those that broke the mold of tradition, that fought against the abuse of alphas and lost values. It was that exact reason that I was so confident in working closely with them.

Chloe and Bianca were back as well, with a few witch survivors among them. They were small in number, but it was enough for us.

The vampires stood out, looking more like ninjas in an indie film than the badass vampires they were trying to achieve, but I wasn’t going to judge.

By the time we were ready to head out, we had close to three hundred supernaturals fighting at our side. Each and every one of them armed with charmed, silver weapons and their own natural powers.

My goal was to fight in human form until the moment we faced the Grave Alpha. Maybe not even then. Because of that, I had several daggers and two guns strapped and holstered to my body. We all wore gloves and kept our skin covered, giving us the ability to wield the tainted weapons without the silver hurting us.

I’d never been a violent one until the Grave Alpha tore apart my life. Now all I could think about was ripping his throat out and watching the life drain from his eyes.

And the end of this day? I’d finally have my sister back and this madness would be over. We could start a new life, one without the weight of our old pack.

Callum walked back to the SUV where my other mates and I were waiting. He’d been speaking with Victor and going over our strategies one last time. His nervous energy was intense right now but I had enough of my own that I barely registered it.

“Everyone knows it’s the goal to get our small group up there to the alpha,” Callum said as he strapped his own weapons on.

“Good,” Leven agreed as he cracked his knuckles and popped his neck. It was a menacing move.

“I’m ready to end this,” said Torryn. “We deserve to start a new life. And so do his survivors.” I appreciated that he didn’t call them victims this time, because at the end of the day, they’ll walk free. I had no doubt in my mind that we would be victors. I just hope we didn’t lose our lives in the process.

“You thought you’d leave me?” Garren questioned as he walked up to join us.

“Please,” I begged him. “I can’t lose you, Garren.”
