“And you won’t. I can help with healing, but I won’t stay behind,” he said firmly.

“Deal,” Leven said, looking relieved at the offer.

“We take back our world, today!” Victor called out, riling up the crowd.

“This is our redemption and his execution!” I yelled out, getting even more cheers this time.

“Then let’s do this,” Nyx growled, climbing into the driver’s seat.

The wolves followed us as we drove to the front of the parking lot. Everybody else formed a line behind them. It looked like we were exiting a huge event, likely confusing the humans around us. We were about to jam up traffic until we were out of the city, but we had little choice. Leaving separately would have given the Grave Pack an easier chance to retaliate. Our strength was in numbers.

Victor’s people had secured us an empty lot within walking distance of the gates to the Grave Pack. Or what we assumed would be them. Everything was set up perfectly, and I was practically holding my breath, waiting for something to fail.

Nyx navigated through the city easily and there was very little traffic barring us once we were on the side roads.

“Just up ahead, hook a right on the narrow road, just before the bend,” Callum said. Nyx slowed and took the sharp turn. I could feel the barriers the moment we started climbing out of the cars. It was weaker, likely the edge of it, but magic was filling the air. It also felt wrong, foreboding, likely warning away humans who were more sensitive to magic than they realized.

“Glad they found thi—” I was now standing in the middle of a large wooden room. It was very rustic, gaudy. Like he’d taken every cliché cabin in the mountains and mixed it all into one.

“Who is it this time?” I asked in annoyance. “Straya? The alpha?” I kept my tone bored just to piss them off and it worked. The Grave Alpha walked out of an adjoining room, a sinister smile on his face. He was naked and I wrinkled my nose at the sight. “I wouldn’t be flaunting that around. It’s kind of embarrassing for you.”

He laughed heartily, like I was making the best joke of my life. But I was dead serious. My men put him to shame easily but narcissism didn’t allow him to take offense.

“How did you like my little note, Vanya? I told Meira the same news, but her reaction was much better than yours.”

“I guess I’m getting a little tired of your games. It’s not really a shock that the asshole sold us to save his own skin.” I shrugged.

He smirked at that. “Yet I saw your face fall,” he taunted. “The pain was there for both you and your failed alpha.”

“You know, I thought we were going to solve this, wolf to wolf. Yet here you are again, hiding behind visions. As I said before… you’re a coward with an inflated ego.”

“Underestimate me all you want, Vanya,” he said as he reached down and grabbed his dick. “But we all have our own rituals. My mates have made me stronger. I’m ready for this war.”

“And I’m sure that was consensual,” I deadpanned as bile rose in my throat. Maybe I’d save a bit of the battle for them, they deserved revenge more than anyone.

“They’re my mates,’’ he said. There was almost a hint of confusion in his face. And again, I could not wait to end this motherfucker. “It seems your vampires have figured out our layout. So I’ll be waiting in the lodge on the hill for you, just like you planned. If you make it… I have to admit, that if you don’t, I’ll be quite disappointed. Meeting with these mirror versions of ourselves just isn’t the same as in person. And I know we’ll get alongsowell.” He gave a little wiggle of his fingers before the room faded.

When I blinked my eyes again, I was surrounded by wolves, witches, and vampires. Every one of them were looking at me like I lost my fucking mind.

The lack of faith in my mental health didn’t make me happy, but I chose levity instead. “If I ever have to see the Grave Alpha’s dick again, I’m going to vomit. Also, in case anyone is wondering, he’s less than average.”

Victor let out a startled laugh that fueled an echoing laughter from everyone around us. “I take it that was a pre-battle taunting?”

I nodded. “He’s ready for us. In fact, you were on the money with the layout. He’s waiting for me on the hill.”

Victor grinned. “Well, I’d hate to refuse an invitation. Let the bloodshed begin. We feast tonight!” Growls and war cries erupted in response and it was more invigorating than any other speech we could have given. This wasn’t about class, it was about violence and revenge.

Energy coursed through my veins and my wolf was on edge. I hopped from foot to foot as nervous energy filled me. This was going to be terrifying, but I had no qualms about using violence. Anyone who stood in our way was someone who would capture, kill, rape, and forcibly mate if left unchecked. I didn’t give a fuck who they had in captivity to make them fight. They were making their choice. We’d save their captives, but if the guards pointed a gun at my people, they would die. Simple as that.

The medic tent was erected in moments; Garren, Emma, Stella, Harlan, and a few others staying behind.

“I’m going with you guys this time,” Nyx said. “They’ve got Stella now.”

“Good,” I said. “Because we aren’t splitting up.”

“I’m sticking by your side as well,” Victor said. “We’re ensuring you make it to your destination. You’ve earned this.” He had Alexander and Harrison by his side, and I was glad to have the extra hands.

“Move out,” Callum said as we all readied our weapons. The moment we walked to the tree line it was like walking through sludge. Each footstep was labor. The air was thick and heavy, and it took several moments before we could fight through the barrier we were trying to pass through. The moment we did, the entire fortress came into view. It was the only word I could use to describe it. Huge logs had been carved to a point forming a fence around the entire thing. Just like Victor predicted, they’d formed the three tiers, each one spanning a length similar to the Bluffs. We would have a lot of ground to cover.
