“Once you let me bite you, it’ll be official,” Callum said. Holt’s gasp had us all grinning. The poor guy must have thought we wouldn’t accept him.

“I just… I thought…” He was at a loss for words.

“You just thought we’d not accept you as you are?” I challenged. “Because that thoughtneveroccurred to us. Was your presence a shock? Sure, a bit. But we’re working through all that. And this will only help.”

Callum grabbed Holt and picked him up like he weighed nothing, putting his face inches from his mate’s. “If you thought for a second you weren’t pack, that you weren’t as important, you were dead wrong.” They crashed their lips together and my entire body lit on fire at the sight. They were gorgeous together, a clash of strong and graceful, bulky and lean, and I couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to be with them.

When Callum broke the kiss, they were both grinning softly. Someone catcalled, breaking the moment completely.

“Okay, point taken,” Holt grumbled as his cheeks burned.

“And as for you”—Callum turned to me, eyes fierce as he pulled me over and tucked me between them—“this changes nothing, you hear me. If we’re not fated, just chosen, I’d choose you every fucking time, Vanya.”

“Same to you, Alpha,” I breathed out. It was exactly what I needed to hear, and I swallowed down the emotion rising in me.

“You know wolves aren’t the only ones who appreciate the full moon. Us witches use it to heal, to strengthen our powers, to connect with the natural energy around us. It’s so strong during that time, it’s intoxicating.”

“What can we do for the witches then? We have a full moon run after a feast, but do you need a certain spot?” Callum asked.

“Wait. This means if we make some kind of strengthening poultice, everyone could regain their strength,” Nyx asked more than said to Holt.

He nodded. “Exactly. Though that may require a bit of green magic.”

“Sorry, I’m not trying to eavesdrop, I was walking past, but I’m a green witch or a nature witch, if you prefer.” The sweet old witch had such a kind smile I instantly knew she was the right witch for the job.

“Then I would love it if you would assist me tomorrow,” Nyx said without hesitation. She smiled and nodded once before moving on.

“She came from that compound?” I asked quietly as she disappeared into the kitchen. “I thought they only took those of mating age.”

“Sometimes they took whatever prisoners they could,” Holt clarified. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen her before. That might mean she was kept elsewhere. It was a large place, and we didn’t exactly have free rein.”

“How are we handling sleeping arrangements?” I asked as a yawn took over. “Didn’t realize how tired I was.”

“Me too,” Holt agreed. Now that I focused on him, his eyes were drooping. But overall, he already looked better.

“We can bunk together tonight,” Callum said, taking both of our hands and leading us away.

He led us to the tent in the far back, isolated from the others. There was one large king mattress inside and someone had already made the bed.

“Gods that looks inviting,” I said as I stripped off the tee and pants I was wearing, to sleep in my sports bra and boy shorts. A choking sound had me freezing and I turned around to see Holt’s eyes roaming over my back. I flinched, forgetting all about my scars.

“Vanya,” he whispered out, voice breaking.

“Don’t, I’m fine,” I promised. “Not all wolves are like us.”

His eyes narrowed for a moment, gears turning.

“Wait. Torryn?”

I sighed heavily. “He was my old alpha, took over for his father before him. We both grew up in the same pack. I made my choices, went against orders, and the elders, they loved to make an example of me. The old alpha as well. When Tor took over, he tried to change things but he’d have been overthrown if he pushed too far. I left after my sister died. Well, got taken by Grave,” I corrected.

“Now she’s here with us,” Callum said, fingers gently running over my scars, making me shiver.

“You seem to find us broken souls,” Holt said with a slight chuckle.

“Let me bite you,” Callum said. His voice was fierce but we both stared at him, confused. The comment was abrupt and out of place.

“Um. What?” Holt said with a nervous laugh. He shot me a look that very clearly yelled ‘help.’
