“Tell me.”

Squeezing the back of his neck, Aiyden briefly looked away. Aiyden, along with the brothers Kahlil and Tyreek, were probably the most solid men from their crew with Hosea. They all held the same values Elite did. He’d go to war for all of his friends, but he was closest to those four.

“I was at Fox and Hound last Sunday playing pool. I saw a woman that looked like Jah when she first came in, but since I didn’t see you, I didn’t think too much of it. Plus, she had on a different color wig that I’d never seen her in before, so I let it ride.”

“What color was the wig?”

“Shit, I don’t know. That color that has the name of a seasoning. Cinnamon, nutmeg…”

As serious as the moment was, Elite couldn’t help but chuckle because he knew exactly what his friend was referring to.

“Ginger?”

“Yeah! That shit. So, yeah. I didn’t really think it was her.”

Nodding, Elite massaged his chin. “What made you change your mind?”

“When she was leaving out with some nigga, I got a closer look at her from the side. I’m not 100 percent sure, but she had on a bag that looked exactly like the Birkin you got her for Christmas when we went on that couples trip last year. It was identical to that colorful ass shit. That’s the only thing that made me think it was her.”

“You know the nigga she was with?”

“Nah.” Aiyden shook his head. “Couldn’t place his face. If itwasJah, they looked too close to be related or just friends. They were holding hands and she was damn near ducked off in the nigga side trying to keep a low profile.”

“Aight, good looking out,” Elite said, shaking Aiyden’s hand.

As far as he knew, Jacintha didn’t have a ginger-colored wig, but that didn’t mean anything. He’d go home and look for it to be safe. Elite prayed he wouldn’t find it as he headed to his Ford 350. If he couldn’t find it, that would help him believe Aiyden was mistaken. And he’d be able to breathe a little easier knowing the woman he saw wasnothis wife.

??????

By the time Elite made it home, he was pissed. Every call he placed to Jacintha went ignored. Not just ignored, but straight to voicemail, as if she had her phone on Do Not Disturb. Even if that was the case, she had it set for his calls to automatically come through. So why in the hell had she changed that shit now?

The first place Elite went was to the bedroom that she used as a large, walk-in closet. All of her wigs were hanging on the walls. There wasn’t a ginger one hanging, but something told Elite to keep looking for it. He went into the closet, and sure enough, there was a ginger wig in a clear bag hanging up.

Elite chuckled and scratched his scalp, continuing to look around the closet. In a dirty clothes hamper, he saw several outfits and lingerie sets that he hadn’t been seeing her in. Where was she wearing them? And with who? At that point, Elite was done giving her the benefit of the doubt and trying not to think the worst.

He sent her a text that told her she had fifteen minutes to answer his phone calls before he tracked her location and pulled up on her. Shortly after, the front door was opening and closing.

Squeezing the bridge of his nose, Elite headed out of her room and into the one they shared. At the sight of him, Jacintha smiled as she pulled her coat off and headed for the closet.

“Hey, baby,” she greeted.

“Where you been? I don’ called you like five times and none of my calls went through.”

“I was just taking some time for myself, and I didn’t want any interruptions.” Jacintha waited until she was back in their bedroom with her silk robe on to ask, “Is everything okay?”

“Where were you Sunday night?”

Her eyes lifted toward the ceiling as she thought about his question. “I went to Fox and Hound. I was supposed to meet B and her brothers there, but she couldn’t make it and only one of her brothers showed up.”

Rolling his tongue over his teeth, Elite crossed his arms over his chest. “You fucking her brother, Jah? And don’t lie to me.”

“What?” She chuckled and shook her head, taking a step away from him. “Not at all. It was Marcello and you know he’s gay.”

That was true, and Marcello was just as affectionate with Jacintha as he was with his sister, but that didn’t explain why she was hiding and making herself look suspect.

“And that’s the only person you were there with?”

“Yes, baby. What is this about?”
