Eric nodded in agreement, placing his hand at the small of her back as he led her out of the lounge. They hadn’t made it a few feet into the parking lot before she heard, “I was waiting to see how far your ass would take this, and you’re really about to leave with this bitch?”

“Shit,” Eric grumbled, slowly turning to face the woman that was talking to him.

At the sight of her, Jacintha’s brows wrinkled as she crossed her arms over her chest. While she couldn’t be upset with Eric for being in a relationship, she hated that he wasn’t more careful. The last thing she needed tonight was drama. Hell, if she wanted that, she could have stayed at home and watched TV.

“Monica, it’s not what it looks like…”

“No.” Monica’s hands lifted in prayer position over her mouth as she laughed. “You are not about to try and lie your way out of this, Eric. You wereclearlyabout to go fuck this bitch.”

“You’ve got one more time to disrespect me before I put you to sleep,” Jacintha warned, tilting her head and widening her stance. If there was one good thing that came from marrying a man who used to be in the streets, it was Elite’s preparation and training. Sure, he made sure she never had to defend herself, but he also made sure she could if she ever had to.

Monica released a cackle as she took a step in their direction.

“I was only going to direct my anger toward him, but now you’re starting to piss me off… bit—”

Before she could get the word out of her mouth, Jacintha was hitting her in it. Monica stumbled back, covering her mouth as her eyes widened.

“Aye, ho!” Eric yelled, gripping Jacintha’s throat and slamming her into the car they were a few steps in front of. “Don’t put your hands on my girl like I’m not standing right fucking here.”

He came like lightning—quick, bright, and hard. Before Jacintha could even register what was happening, the man’s fist was connecting with the side of Eric’s head, knocking him out instantly. Monica yelled and rushed over to him, using her body as a shield.

“You good?” the stranger asked, standing directly in front of Jacintha.

Nodding, she found herself unable to take her eyes off Eric. “Y-yes.”

“You need to go before they call the police.” That snapped Jacintha out of her trance. She locked eyes with him, unable to register how handsome he was or anything else, for that matter. “Do you need a ride?”

Her head shook adamantly. Eric was the first and last time she’d trusted herself with a stranger on any level. The fuck was she even thinking? She wasn’t a cheater… and on Elite of all people? He didn’t deserve this, and her almost betrayal had Jacintha questioning if she even deservedhim.

“No. I drove.”

Her eyes scanned the parking lot quickly, noticing security huddled up at the door, pointing in their direction.

“Do me a favor,” she said, walking quickly toward her car in hopes that he would follow behind.

“Wassup?”

“The bartender, Angel, is my best friend’s cousin. Can you please go in there and tell her what happened so she can tell Bianca?”

“I gotchu. I’ll hold them off if they do call the police. What I did was in your defense, so I’m not worried about that shit. Get home safely, aight?”

Nodding, Jacintha resisted the urge to give the stranger a hug. Instead, she unlocked her Lincoln MKZ, pressed the start button, and swerved out of the parking lot as quickly as she possibly could.

??????

“Damn,” Elite grumbled, running his hand over his bare stomach as he entered the kitchen. “You’re actually cooking dinner?”

With a half-smile, Jacintha inhaled a deep breath. His arms wrapped around her, causing her to hold the breath in. When Elite kissed her neck, she shivered. Jacintha couldn’t think of the last time they’d been affectionate with each other. It had to be close to two weeks. Throughout the week, she was focused on her kids and the small jewelry home business Elite helped her start, and because Elite craved fun and excitement, he almost always spent the weekends out of the house.

In the beginning, Jacintha found his lack of a desire to spend the weekends with her offensive, but when he tried to hang with her, she realized she didn’t like to do any of the things he liked… nor did she care for his friends. Instead of sucking it up and doing things that he wanted to do, as he often did with her, she decided against being around him at all. All she asked was that he not cheat while he was out and about. Maybe it was guilt that had her fixing dinner over what happened last night. She couldn’t believe how close she’d gotten to cheating.

“Baby,” Jacintha crooned, tightening her stance when Elite tried to turn her in his arms. “If you want me to be done with this before you leave, don’t come in here distracting me.”

“Fuck that.” He turned her in his arms and lifted her onto the counter. “You haven’t cooked my favorite meal in at least six months. Let me show you that I appreciate you.”

“Elite,” she called softly as he continued to nibble, lick, and suck her neck. Her nipples hardened and chill bumps covered her arms as her legs instinctively wrapped around him. “The girls are here.”

“Let’s go upstairs and cut some music up.”
