Sucking his teeth, Elite headed out of the bathroom and grabbed his white t-shirt from the edge of the bed.
“Gone on with that bullshit, Jah.”
“It’s not bullshit. I’m just asking. Is Nicole going to have one of her friends there for you?”
Elite chuckled, and that only angered Jacintha more. Truth was, Elite hadn’t done a damn thing to warrant her mistrust. She was projecting because of her own desire to cheat, but she was too stubborn to admit that.
“No,” he answered simply… calmly.
He’d remain that way until he snapped. Elite was probably the most laid-back, nonchalant man she’d ever known… but his temper was lethal. It took a lot to make him snap, but when he did… Elite couldn’t be contained. His brother, Supreme, was the opposite. Supreme was easily irritated and always ready to make some shit shake. They balanced each other out in that way.
“Then who are you going to be with?”
“I just told you who I was going to be with.”
“So just them?”
He looked back at her, jaw clenched. “I’m not going to repeat myself. What the fuck is up with you, Jah?”
“Nothing. I’m sorry. Can you just come to the party with me? Please.”
Scratching his jaw, Elite’s head shook. “Send me the location. I might slide through after I’ve kicked it with them for a while.”
Nodding, Jacintha was willing to take whatever she could get at that point.
“Okay. And um… I’m sorry about earlier too. If you’d like to take some time just for us tomorrow…”
“It’s cool, Jah.”
Her heart squeezed and body warmed as she watched him disappear into their closet. If anyone knew how his needs being ignored made Elite feel, it was his wife. Because of his parents and past, Elite had abandonment and rejection issues that he was still trying to work through. She mentally scolded herself for not putting her guilt aside and answering Bianca’s phone call instead of giving her husband her undivided attention.
Two weeks.
She hadn’t felt his touch in two fucking weeks.
It was crazy how a home-cooked meal made him so happy and was all it took to change that.
Sighing, Jacintha ran her hand down her face and headed downstairs. She might not have had the courage to get physical, but at least she’d put all the love she had into his dinner for the weekend.

It was the same shit, just a different day. Exactly one week later, Jacintha was sitting on the couch, arms crossed over her chest, left leg shaking. As usual, Elite was spending the weekend with his brother, sister-in-law, and friends. Unlike usual, Jacintha pulled up on him. She couldn’t believe he was actually where he said he was, so Jacintha had to see it for herself. Now, she was stuck in Supreme’s man cave while they rotated blunts between the three of them.
Times like this reminded her of the biggest difference between her and Nicole. In their eyes, Nicole was like one of the guys. She smoked and drank, liked pool and sports, and could rap along to every song that came on. Nicole had garnered the title of both their best friends back in high school, but she also secured the heart of Supreme Benson in the process. While Jacintha wanted to believe her sister-in-law wouldn’t help her husband cheat, she didn’t put anything past anyone… especially a woman whose loyalty was to her husband and his brother.
“You staying long enough to watch the game?” Supreme asked Elite, whose head was propped against the back of the couch while he rested his red, low eyes.
“I’on know. Antonne and nem talking about going to Buffalo Wild Wings or Hooters to watch it.”
“Hooters wings are trash,” Supreme replied, getting a chuckle out of his wife.
“You don’t give a fuck about them wings,” Nicole said. “All you care about is the game and the bitches that will be flirting and serving your ass for that tip.”
They all laughed, and Jacintha couldn’t help but join in.
“Still, if I go, I wanna go to Buffalo Wild Wings.”
“If y’all do, bring me my usual back,” Nicole said as she stood. Her eyes landed on Jacintha. “Are you leaving out with them? You can stay here, and we can watch a Lifetime movie or whatever you like to do.”
