“Wow.” She shakes her head slowly. “You really love her?”

“I really do.”

“So then…”

“So then, nothing. I want you to let it go. Let things play out as they will.”

“And what about Clarke?”

“What about her?”

“Are you going to tell her the truth?”

“Honestly, I haven’t thought that far ahead.”

“My advice.” She stands. “Don’t say a word. No one knows but the two of us and Kat, and you pay us well for our silence. The truth will only hurt her.” She clasps my shoulder. “Now, unless you need anything else, I’m meeting with another client across town in an hour and you know how traffic can be at this time of day.”

“No, you’re good. I appreciate you stopping by. Though in the future, a phone call would have sufficed.”

“Kat said it was important that we talk. I don’t do important over the phone.” She gives me a nod before walking away, the heels of her shoes clicking against the floor as she does. I listen to the sound until it fades to nothingness, breathing out a sigh of relief to have that officially behind me.

As far as I’m concerned, everything that’s happened between Clarke and me is real. But putting an end to the “plan” as a whole, does make me feel better about moving forward. Like I can finally be with her without caring about any outside factors.

“Trey, you’re up,” Harold hollers, pulling me back to the here and now.

Pushing out of my chair, I join him on set, ready to get this day wrapped so I can go tell a beautiful blonde beauty who has completely captivated my world that I love her.

“Clarke.” I knock on the front door of her condo, nervous energy pinging around inside of me like a fucking pubescent teenager about to kiss a girl for the first time. To be fair, this is only the second time I’ve ever told someone I love them and the first one, turns out, wasn’t real love, but more like infatuation. And that was over a decade ago.

“Clarke.” I knock harder, pretty certain she’s home. Though she still hasn’t responded to the message I sent an hour ago asking if I could see her tonight.

“Clarke, are you home?” I lift my hand to knock again when the door suddenly opens and Clarke steps through, causing me to take a step back.

“Hey,” I start, my words failing on my lips when I catch sight of her red, puffy eyes and tear stained cheeks. “Baby, what happened?” I reach out to comfort her but she violently slaps my hand away.

“Do not fucking touch me!” she warns, gritting her teeth together.

“What… What the fuck is going on?” Confusion hits me so hard it gives me fucking whiplash. “What happened?”

“You!” she sobs, angrily wiping away tears that continue to fall down her cheeks. “You happened.”

“I don’t understand. What did I do?”

“You know what you did.” She jabs a finger into my chest. “Why? Why me? Why did it have to be me? Of all the women in the world, you had to pickmylife to ruin.”

“Clarke, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Let’s go inside and you can tell me what’s going on.”

“No!” A guttural scream rips from her throat. “Tell me why!”

“Why what?”

“Why me?”

“Why you, what?”

Panic grips at my chest.

“You must think I’m so stupid. The way I let you into my life. The way I let you fuck me like your own personal whore. I don’t…” Her tears come harder now and it damn near guts me to see.
