I want nothing more than to pull her into my arms and kiss every single tear away, yet she won’t even let me touch her.

“You made me fall in love with you, Treyton. Are you happy now? Mission accomplished, huh? Well, congratulations.”

“You love me?” It’s the only words I can seem to hone in on.

“Not any fucking more, I don’t.” She shoves me…Hard. “Leave. Now. And don’t ever fucking come back.”

“Clarke, please tell me what I did.”

“You want to know what you did?” She rips her phone from her back pocket and slams her finger down on the screen.

Moments later, I hear voices before she turns the screen toward me.

I swear the floor opens up and swallows me whole.

Someone recorded my conversation with Helen??

Someone fucking recorded my conversation with Helen andsent it to Clarke.

But who? Why?

In an instant, it hits me…

Brandy.

She’s been lurking around for days, almost like she’s trying to catch me in something. And wouldn’t you know, I handed that something to her on a silver fucking platter. I don’t have proof, but deep in my gut I know it was her.

How stupid am I? To discuss shit like that on set where dozens of people could hear if they cared to…

“It’s not what you think,” I say after only seeing a few seconds of the footage.

“You have got to be kidding me.” She lets out a humorless laugh. “You’re going to try to talk your way out of it even with the proof staring you right in the face.”

“I’m not trying to talk my way out of it, but I want to explain.”

“I think the video is explanation enough. I knew something wasn’t adding up. I knew there was more to the story. You saw me and justcouldn’thelp yourself?” She rolls her eyes. “Jesus! How stupid could I be? You two cocked up this whole plan. You knew when you walked into that house exactly what you were doing. And you collaborated with one of my former clients to make it happen.”

“Clarke.”

“Honestly, who does this to another person?”

“Please…”

“You used me. You used me, Treyton. I’m a person, not a chess piece.” Her bottom lip quivers.

“I have no excuse. What I did, what I went along with, it’s despicable. But I didn’t know I’d end up feeling this way.”

“Oh, so it’s okay to go around ruining other people’s lives as long as you’re not emotionally invested in them? Listen to yourself.” More tears fall. “I’ll give you one thing, you’re a much better actor than I gave you credit for. I hope you’re happy with your performance. I’ll make sure to leave you a review on Yelp.”

She spins around, heading back into her condo.

“Please, Clarke.” Emotion clogs in my throat. “I love you.”

She stops, turning slowly toward me.

“If this is what you do to the people you love, I don’t want it. Any of it. And I don’t want you. Not ever again. Stay away from me. I never want to see you again.”

With that, she slams the door in my face.
