“Sorry.” She nervously bats her eyelashes and I swear to Christ, it’s my undoing.

I slide my hand around the back of her neck and pull her to me, the smallest whimper leaving her mouth when my lips slide against hers.

I’m painfully rock hard and I’m once again reminded that this is the first time in my life I’ve had to show even an ounce of restraint and fuck me if it isn’t so much more difficult than I thought it’d be.

“Trey,” she softly protests against my lips, snapping me from my fog.

I pull back, forcing a smile to my face.

“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.” I pinch her chin between my thumb and index finger, tipping her face upward when she tries to turn away. “It’s okay, you know?”

“What is?” Her voice is barely a whisper.

“To want to kiss me back.”

“I think you misread my reaction.” She stumbles over her words.

“Did I?” I give her an unconvincing look.

She opens her mouth like she’s going to say something but then snaps it closed.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out she’s affected. Hell, I’d say she’s more than just affected, if the flush that’s now spread down her entire neck is any indication.

“I think you should leave.” She steps out of my grasp.

“Wait, what?”

The sudden shift in her demeanor catches me off balance.

“I never should have brought you here. You are who you are. You can’t help yourself.”

“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” I try to keep the anger from my voice but it still seeps through.

“Nothing.” She quickly exits the kitchen, tugging open the front door moments later.

“You’re kicking me out?”

Is she fucking serious right now?

“Look, I get that in your world you make your own rules. But in my world, when afriendinvites you over because you seem like you’re having a rough day, you don’t take advantage of said friend’s kindness.”

“Is that what you think I’m doing? Taking advantage of your kindness?” My tone softens.

She nods. “You’re here all of five minutes and already you’re trying to make a move.” She clenches the door like it’s the only thing keeping her upright. “I am not that kind of girl and it’s insulting that you think I am.”

“Clarke, close the door.” I cross the room, placing my hand above hers on the door, leaning in close but not too close. “I’m sorry, okay? I don’t think you’re that kind of woman. Honestly.”

I apologize because really, what else can I do? One touch of her soft lips against mine and I nearly busted a nut in my fucking pants like a prepubescent teenager, and I still need the girl to,I don’t know, not hate my fucking guts.

“I wasn’t trying to put the moves on you. I swear. I had a rough day. You were standing so close and you smell so fucking good and I just acted.” Her lips part, and I hear a deep intake of air. “That wasn’t fair of me,” I continue. “Can we just pretend like it didn’t happen?”

“You want me to pretend like it didn’t happen?” She tries to hide the look of disappointment on her face but I catch it seconds before her expression goes neutral.

I swear I can’t figure her out at all.

Does she want me?

Does she not?
