What fucking game are we playing here because I’m pretty fucking sure I don’t understand the rules.

I nod.

“It won’t happen again?” She phrases it like a question but it feels more like a statement.

“Not unless you want it to.”

“I won’t.”

She’s not very convincing but I don’t call her on it like I normally would. I need to start building headway here and I’m not doing myself any favors by pushing myself on her. Might work on some women but not Clarke Hamilton. I’ve learned that much about her.

And as the saying goes; Rome wasn’t built in a day.

“Do you accept my apology?” I pout out my bottom lip so dramatically that I’m only able to hold it there for a few short seconds before a smile breaks across my face.

She visibly relaxes, releasing the door.

“Fine.” She stomps past me, back into the kitchen. “But if you so much as put a finger on my shoulder, I will bite it off. Am I clear?” She whips around, watching me close and lock the door.

“Hands to myself. Got it.” I hold my hands up in front of myself as I reenter the kitchen.

“I’m serious, Treyton.” I don’t miss the way she uses my full name again.

“Understood.” I grin.

“Stop smiling at me,” she demands, clamping down on her bottom lip like she’s trying to contain her own smile.

“What, I can’t smile at you now?”

“No.”

“No?” I bark out a laugh.

“God, why are you so infuriating?” She tosses her hands up in the air.

“Pot meet kettle.”

“Me?” Her eyes widen. “How am I infuriating?”

“Are you really asking me that right now?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, for starters…”

“You know what, don’t answer that,” she cuts me off. “Let’s just stick to making dinner.”

“If that’s what you want.” I can’t help myself from teasing her further. What can I say? I’m a glutton for punishment.

“It is.”

“If you’re sure…”

“Oh my God, would you stop?”

“Stop what?” I give her an innocent grin.

“Gahhh…” She tilts her head upward and lets out a feminine roar of frustration.

“So, pasta, we gonna get this going or are you going to stand there screaming at the ceiling all night?”

If looks could kill, I’d be dead on the floor right about now.
