“Because it’s what you want.”

I think on that for a moment, my inebriated brain immediately jumping on the Treyton Tyler train.I’m all in, baby, toot, toot.At least until morning when I’ll likely wake up pissed at myself for letting him back in.

“How’s this for seizing the moment?” I lean in to kiss him, our tongues instantly tangling together. He groans into my mouth, pressing his erection against my stomach.

“I have a feeling…” he stops, presses another kiss to my lips, then continues, “that you just might be my kryptonite,” he murmurs against my mouth.

“I already know you’re mine,” I admit, pulling back to see an emotion I can’t quite grab cross over his face… Fear. Uncertainty. I’m not sure what, but it’s gone almost as quickly as it appeared.

“Come on.” He slides an arm around my shoulder and turns me toward the road, right as a black car pulls up to the curb.

It isn’t until he opens the back door that I realize it’s Nick in the driver’s seat. I had the opportunity to get to know Nick a little at the baseball camp, as he was assigned to be my babysitter for the day. I found he was actually quite funny and I instantly almost felt comfortable with him. He was very tight lipped about anything to do with Treyton but otherwise, I found him easy to talk to.

“Nicholas!” I throw my arms up like the drunk fool that I am.

He fights a smile as Treyton tucks me into the backseat and shuts the door. Crossing around to the other side, he slides in next to me and closes his own door.

Suddenly the air feels too warm and I reach over, rolling down the window. I’m so focused on the night breeze blowing in that I almost miss the blonde from earlier. You know, the one I almost had my first fight with. She’s standing on the curb, her eyes trained on me, mouth sagging open.

I childishly lean a little out the window.

“What did you say about Treyton Tyler not giving me the time of day?” I holler out of the moving car as we start to pull away.

Tossing up my middle finger, I smile like I just won the god damn lottery, before Treyton tugs me back inside.

Ah, sweet vindication.

“I take it that was the woman from earlier?” He chuckles, not seeming the least bit turned off by my antics.

“We were this close to throwing down.” I hold my thumb and index finger just centimeters apart, laughing stupidly at myself.

“Well, I’m glad you didn’t.” He closes his hand around mine and lowers them into my lap. “Because it would have been a shame if she had put even a single mark on this beautiful face.” He trails his free hand down the side of my cheek.

“You’re really laying it on thick tonight.”

“Am I?” His smile widens. “I hadn’t noticed.”

“Uh huh.” I shake my head.

“What can I say? When I want something, I work hard for it.”

“And you want me?” My words are riddled with disbelief.

“Why do you find that so hard to believe?”

“Because you’re you.” I pull my hand out of his and gesture to, well, all of him. “And I’m me. Which don’t get me wrong, I love myself, but on the scale of women you could have, I probably rank somewhere closer to the bottom.”

“You couldn’t be more wrong. You want to know the difference between you andallthose other women you’re referring to, besides the fact that you’re more beautiful than they’ll ever be?”

“I’m sure you’re going to tell me either way,” I interrupt, pretty sure I just imagined the part where he basically called me the most beautiful woman in the world.Yeah right.

“They’re vain, money hungry vampires that will climb on any cock as long as it puts them in their desired social circle.”

“How do you know I’m not like that?”

“Because they tell me everything I want to hear, and you tell me the truth.” He blows out a breath. “They claim to love me day one, you had to be forced to even have dinner with me.”

I tap my chin as if I’m really considering his words.
