Brandy spins back around, primed for a fight, but I’m out of my trailer before she can take a single step back toward Clarke.

“Turn around and walk away, or so help me God, Brandy, there isn’t a line I won’t cross to get your ass removed from this film.”

“You couldn’t if you wanted to,” she hisses.

“You want to try me and find out?” I challenge.

In truth, I don’t have a leg to stand on. But that doesn’t mean I won’t try. If she doesn’t give me any other choice, I’ll be forced to. Either that, or quit, which pretty much guarantees I’ll never work in Hollywood again.

“You’ll regret this,” she warns.

“Will I?” I pretend to think about it. “Yeah, I don’t think so.”

“You’re not the man I fell in love with.”

“And thank fuck for that.” I throw my hands up as if to praise the heavens.

“Don’t worry, sweetheart,” she turns back to look at Clarke, “it’s only a matter of time.”

I breathe out a sigh of relief when she finally stomps away like a spoiled child who didn’t get her way.

My gaze instantly goes back to Clarke.

“Clarke… I can expl…”

“No need,” she cuts me off before I can finish my sentence. “I never realized how little of a sound barrier these things have.” She looks at my trailer then back to me.

“You heard?”

“Just the end,” she confirms, making her way to the steps. “She’s a real piece of work.”

“That she is.”

“First at the party, then again today. I feel like a pattern is forming.”

“God, let’s hope not,” I groan.

“I hope it’s okay that I’m here. Kat told them to let me in.”

“I was wondering how you got in.” I smile. “And it’s more than okay that you’re here. Come in.” I hold the door open wider, breathing in her sweet scent when she steps past me into the trailer.

I close the door behind her.

“So what, is Brandy trying to get you back?” She sets the bag she’s holding on the small fold out table before she turns to face me.

“No, she just wants to win.”

“I can’t compete with someone like her.” She hesitantly meets my gaze.

I close the distance between us in one large step, my hand going to the back of her head as I angle her face upward.

“There’s no competition. You’re not even playing the same game.”

She burrows into my touch.

“I’m not playing any game.”

“You know what I mean, though.” I kiss the tip of her nose.
