“Wrong.” I shake my head.

“Country?” he guesses again.

“Nope.”

“Rock?”

“You’re getting warmer.” I pull my bottom lip between my teeth to contain the ridiculous smile that threatens to take over my mouth at how freaking cute he looks right now. “Indie alternative is my favorite.”

“Man, I was way off base.” He shakes his head. “But it just so happens that tonight’s headliner is one of the best Alternative bands around, at least in my opinion.”

“Who is it?”

“Nothing but Ordinary.”

“Shut up!” I practically squeal.

“I take it you approve?”

“Approve? Oh my god, I freaking love them!”

“Well then I guess I did good.” He looks pleased with himself.

“Are we actually going to see them?” I ask, trying to contain my excitement.

“We are,” he confirms. “I mean, if you want to that is.”

“I want to,” I answer too quickly.

“Then that’s what we’re doing.”

“Wait, don’t we need tickets? There’s no way this show isn’t sold out.”

“Oh it is, but lucky foryouwe don’t need tickets.” He winks.

“We don’t?” I ask, waiting for him to clarify.

“I still can’t believe I was so far off on your music choices. I thought for sure you were a pop kind of girl.”

“Well, in all fairness you’d be hard pressed to find a style of music I don’t like.”

“Jazz?” He arches a brow.

“Okay, I take that back.” I giggle.

He stares at me for a long moment without saying a word, making me feel self-conscious.

“What?” I ask, feeling squeamish under his stare.

“You’re adorable,” he announces, sliding the back of his hand gently down the side of my cold cheek. “Come on, let’s get you inside.” He turns, sliding his hand into mine like we’ve held hands a hundred times before. I try to push past the swarm of butterflies that take over my stomach when his fingers squeeze around mine but it’s impossible to ignore.

Pulling me alongside him, he quickly leads us across the valet lanes toward the entrance. Passing the line of people waiting to enter the venue, he approaches a middle aged security guard who’s standing off to the side, monitoring the scanning of tickets as people make their way in.

“Abel.” He smiles the moment he sees us. “It’s been a spell.” He abandons his post to reach out and shake Abel’s hand. “How’ve you been?”

“Doing good.” Abel releases his hand and takes a step back. “How about you? How’s Caroline?”

“As crazy as ever.” He chuckles to himself.
