“I’m saying, I don’t how much of it wasbecauseI was sick. It brought out something in me, courage, and a boldness I wouldn’t have otherwise possessed.”

“So you took a chance.” She shrugs. “What’s so wrong with that?”

“Nothing. It was the best night of my life.”

“Then why haven’t you contacted him?”

“Well for one, I don’t have his number,” I start. “And two, what would I say? Hey, sorry I disappeared on you but I thought I would be dead by now.”

“For starters. Yeah.” She laughs.

“Well again, I don’t have his number so it doesn’t matter.”

“But you know where he lives, do you not?”

“How much did Claire tell you?” I set my drink on the table, pinning my gaze on her.

“Enough.” She gives me a toothy smile.

“Well, going to see him isn’t really an option now is it?” I gesture around my hospital room.

“No, but calling him is,” Claire announces as she appears in the doorway.

“I don’t have his number,” I repeat what I just said to Heather.

“You don’t. ButIdo.” She holds her phone up as she crosses the room toward me.

“What do you mean you do?” I don’t try to hide my confusion.

“Someone came by to see you today.”

“What? Who?” My heart begins to thump violently against my ribs.

“Who do you think?”

“I have no idea. Who?” My voice shoots up an octave.

“Abel,” she practically squeals. “And oh my god, Fin, he’s even hotter than you described.”

“Wait? What?” I force out, pushing past the cloud of confusion and surprise that has settled over me.

“He stopped by shortly after I got home from work.”

“Wait, how did he know where we live?”

“Your guess is as good as mine. You sure you didn’t tell him?”

“IknowI didn’t.”

“Well somehow he found out.” She reaches for the Frappuccino on my table, lifting it up to inspect the contents. “Did you make sure you’re allowed to have this?”

“Oh relax. It’s fine. Now tell me what he said.” I snatch the cup from her hand.

“He asked if you were home. I told him you weren’t.”

“You didn’t tell him...” I start.

“I didn’t tell him anything,” she reassures me. “I told him you were gone for a few weeks and that I’d be happy to pass along his number if he wanted to give it to me.”
