“And that’s it?”

“That’s it.” She nods. “I don’t know what kind of spell you put on that man but he seemed very eager to speak with you.”

“He did?” My heart leaps.

“Oh my god.” Heather draws my attention back to her. “You weren’t lying, Claire.” She gives me a knowing smirk.

“Told ya. Stars in her eyes.” Claire giggles.

“Shut up, the both of you. I feel like I’m about to have an anxiety attack,” I say, suddenly having difficulty breathing.

“That’s what love will do to you,” Claire tells me, her and Heather having a good laugh at my expense.

“I do not love him. I don’t even know him,” I object, not for one second buying into my own lie.

I know what I felt that night and what I feel every time I think about Abel. If it isn’t love then I don’t know what is.

“So then you don’t want his number?” Claire holds her phone out to me, a wicked smile on her lips.

I stare at the device for a few seconds, making no attempt to take it from her.

“No,” I answer, shaking my head.

“What?” Heather erupts, jumping from her seat. “Why the hell not?”

“Because look at me.” I gesture to myself.

“Iamlooking at you.” She cocks a brow at me. “It’s his phone number, Finley. What’s the harm in talking to him?”

“She’s right,” Claire chimes in. “All he knows is your away for a few weeks. Call him. Text him. Just talk to him. He doesn’t have to know where you are or why you disappeared until you’re ready to tell him.”

“You guys ever hear of peer pressure?” I tease, my gaze bouncing back and forth between the two of them.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing more that I want than to pick up the phone and hear Abel’s voice. To get some kind of reassurance that I’m not crazy and that he really is everything I thought he was that night. But the other part of me is terrified.

What if I’m not who he thought I was?Not to mention that I still have a long road ahead of me. How selfish would it be of me to drag him into my life when everything is still so up in the air? That wouldn’t be fair to him or me.

“Here.” Claire unlocks her phone and taps the screen. “I’m texting you his number. I told him I’d give it to you and that’s what I’m going to do. What you do with it from there is on you.” She taps the screen one last time before locking it, my phone signaling an incoming text moments later.

“Well, as much as I want to hang around and see how all this unfolds, I gotta get to work.” Heather stands, turning toward me. “You want my opinion? Don’t let that number go to waste.”

“Yeah. Yeah.” I swipe at her. “Get out of here or you’ll be late.”

“I’ll come back by later this week. Any requests when I do?”

“Strawberry milkshake?” I give her a pretty please face.

“Strawberry milkshake it is.” She laughs. “Love you, girl.”

“Love you, too,” I call after her, watching her exit the room moments later.

“So, what are you going to do?” Claire starts in on me the instant Heather disappears into the hallway.

“I don’t know,” I tell her truthfully.

“Something tells me he’s not going to let this go. The man tracked down where you live for goodness sake. I don’t know whether I should feel worried or impressed.”

“It’s not like it’s that hard to find out where someone lives,” I point out.
