“Well, you could always tell me where you are and I could bring it to you.”

“Nice try.” I laugh.

“You’re seriously not going to tell me where you are?”

“Nope.”

“You have to be the most secretive person I’ve ever met before, you know that?”

“How so?” I play coy.

“Because we spent an entire night together and somehow you managed to avoid telling me your last name, where you work, and where you live. And now, apparently you’re off somewhere doing who knows what and you refuse to tell me where you are.”

“Makes things fun, doesn’t it?” I tease.

“It’s maddening.” He chuckles. “My Finley, so full of mystery.”

My heart flips in my chest.MyFinley. He’s staking his claim and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me outrageously happy.

“What are you doing right now?” he asks.

“At this very moment?” I question, not waiting for his response before answering. “Lying in bed. What are you doing?”

“The same.” He sighs loudly. “It’s impossible not to think of you. I swear I can still smell you everywhere.”

My stomach twists.

“What do you mean you can smell me?”

“I’m sure it’s all in my mind, but if I close my eyes I can imagine you here, next to me. Your scent dancing around me.

It’s impossible not to think of you. Your hair spread out on my pillow, lips parted, cheeks pink.”

Heat spreads across my face.

“I want you here again.”

“I want to be there again.”

“Then why did you bolt on me?”

“I wouldn’t say I bolted.”

“You bolted.”

“Whatever.” I huff, my smile firmly intact.

“Why?”

“It’s complicated.”

“I’m sure I could keep up.”

“It’s not something I can easily explain. Just know I wanted to go back the instant I left.”

“Then why didn’t you leave your number?”

“Because I thought it’d be easier that way. Things are... complicated right now.”
