“You ready?” he asks, turning just as Aaron disappears down the hallway.

“Yeah.”

“What was Aaron doing up here?” He hitches his finger in the direction his brother just went.

“Hatching a plan to make an early escape.” I giggle.

“Is that so?” He chuckles, sliding into his jacket. “He likes you. I can tell.”

“Well, the feeling is mutual. I think he’s my favorite,” I whisper the last part.

“That makes two of us.” He gives me a knowing smile before pulling the door open and leading us outside.

Spring is upon us but unfortunately the temperatures are still stuck somewhere back in January. It’s been so cold the last few days I’ve barely been able to stand to go outside.

“Come here.” Abel pulls me to his side as we make our way toward the car.

“Was anyone upset that we were leaving so quickly after dinner?” I ask.

“Not at all. They’re all too self-absorbed to really care about anything but themselves.” He stops and pulls the passenger door of his car open for me.

“That’s not a very nice thing to say.”

“But still true.” He laughs, closing the door once I’m settled inside.

He crosses around the front of the car and slips into the driver’s seat next to me moments later.

“Well, we did it.” He lays his head back on the headrest and turns his face toward me.

“And we made it out alive.” I mirror his action, dropping my head back onto the headrest.

“Not only did we make it out alive, but I think my family thoroughly enjoyed having you.”

“I thought they were too self-absorbed to care,” I mock, reminding him of his earlier statement.

“Well, a couple of them are. But I know it meant a lot to my mom. So, thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank me. I wanted to meet your family. They are a part of you.” I pause. “I just wish I had a family I could introduce you to.”

“You have Claire.”

“True. But getting to meet one sister versus an entire family is very different.”

“It is. But I don’t care that you don’t have some big family. Families are overrated.” He winks. “I just need you.”

“And I just need you.” I can’t contain the love swept smile as it slides across my face.

That smile only widens further when Abel leans forward and brushes his nose against mine.

“I love you,” he whispers, his gaze hard to lock onto with his close proximity and the dimness of the car.

“I love you too.” And I mean it down to my very core.

“What do you say we go home, snuggle in bed, and watch one of those rom-coms you love so much?”

“Abel Collins, did you just offer to watch a romance movie with me?” I pull back in mock surprise.

“As long as you’re in my arms I don’t care what we watch.”

“You may live to regret that,” I warn playfully.

“Do your worst.” He drops a quick kiss to my mouth before pulling back, the engine of the car firing to life moments later.

I snap my seatbelt in place and look back toward Abel, not able to wipe the ridiculously happy smile off my face. I can’t help it. He makes me feel... everything. I love every second of every minute I get to spend with him and that feeling only intensifies with each day that passes.

I’ve spent my entire life looking for something, never actually knowing what I was searching for. Now I know. All this time I was looking for him. And now that I’ve found him, I’m never letting him go.
