Chapter Twenty-eight

Abel

––––––––

“Good morning.” I rollinto Finley, kissing her shoulder as my hand slides around her middle, caging her against me.

“Morning,” she grumbles, her voice heavy with sleep.

“Do you know what today is?” I ask, trailing my lips up her neck to the soft spot right below her ear.

“Day fourteen.” I hear the smile in her voice.

“One more day.” I slide my hand down her side, squeezing her hip gently.

“You better have something really romantic planned.” She laughs, rolling toward me.

“Is that so?” I look down at my beautiful girl who I swear gets more breathtaking with each day that passes.

Now that she’s two weeks out from her last chemo session she’s starting to feel and act more like herself. The color has come back to her face and her eyes are brighter than they’ve been in weeks. It feels so good to see her getting better, stronger.

Two weeks also lifts the doctor’s restrictions on sex. While it’s not an expectation, it’s something we’ve talked about several times. I think she’s been counting down the days more than I have–if that’s even possible.

Then again, there’s something to be said about waiting. About the anticipation of it all. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been enjoying this little game we’ve been playing the last few days.

“You know, we could always just say it’s been two weeks and call it good?” She gives me a sly smile.

“You know I’d love nothing more but doctors’ orders,” I tisk.

“Doctors don’t know everything.” She rolls her eyes.

“They know enough.” I tap her on the tip of her nose.

“Fine, then midnight tonight.” She slides a leg over my hip and presses her body against mine. I immediately tighten under the contact. “Then technically we won’t be breaking any rules.”

I think on that for a moment.

“Okay, then.” I dip my mouth down to hers and press a deep kiss to her lips. “Midnight.” I groan, pulling back before all that goes out the window and I take her right here and now. “Although it might be more like one-ish because I have a gig until midnight.”

“I guess I can wait until you get off work.” She sighs playfully.

“What do you say we catch dinner before my show and then you come with me? Considering you’re going back to work in a couple of days it might be your last chance to see me play for a while.”

“As long as you’ll have me back here and naked directly afterward, I’m up for whatever.” She smiles, grinding into me again.

“It’s a date.” I kiss her forehead before abruptly rolling out of bed.

“Where are you going?” she whines, reaching for me.

“I’ve got a few errands to run before tonight,” I tell her, grabbing my shirt off the floor before slipping it over my head.

“Are you sure they can’t wait?” She props up on her elbow and gives methe look.

“We said after midnight.” I chuckle. “Stop looking at me like that.” I step into my jeans and slide them up over my hips.

“You’re so easy to work up.” She smiles.

“Glad you think so.” I grin, leaning down to lay a quick kiss to her mouth before standing back up. “I’ll pick you up around five. Does that work?”
