“You don’t fight fair, B.”

“Never claimed to,” I say matter of fact. “Now, when are you coming home?”

“On my way now.”

“Don’t get here too fast,” I sing song, turning back toward the apartment door as I abruptly end the call and push my way back inside.

“Something happen?” Brennon asks before I’ve even closed the door behind me.

“Huh?”

“You’re smiling,” he points out, causing said smile to instantly fall.

“Oh, it’s nothing. You know Zoe. She’s a trip.”

Is there an award for the worst sister ever? Because if so, that bitch is mine.

“If you say so,” he grumbles, turning his attention back to his laptop.

“I’m going to go hop in the shower,” I tell him, dropping my phone face down on the table. “You need to get in there before I do?”

“Nah,” he doesn’t look up from his screen. “I’m good.”

“Kay.” I rustle his hair as I pass.

“Can I ask you a question?” I let my fingers dance lazily across Atlas’s bare abdomen.

It’s dark. Not so dark that I can’t see anything, but dark enough that most of what I can see are silhouettes of objects rather than the actual objects themselves. We’re lying in bed, hidden away in Atlas’s room, our naked limbs tangled together in the same way they’ve been for the last three nights.

I said it was too risky to sneak in here. Atlas convinced me to make an exception. I did. And once I saw how easy it was to get away with, there was nothing stopping me from doing it again, and again, and again.

“That depends.” Atlas’s voice vibrates against my cheek that’s pressed to his chest.

“On what?”

“Nothing.” He chuckles lightly. “I just like to say that whenever someone asks if they can ask me a question... Oof.” The last part comes out after I lay a light smack to his stomach. “You’re so violent, B.” I can feel him smile against my hair.

“You bring out the worst in me.”

“Or the best, depending on how you look at it.” I don’t have to look up to know he’s wearing that stupid, sexy smirk of his. It’s scary how well I know him, how well I’ve always known him. “Now what was your question?”

“When is Eve due?” He tenses the moment the words leave my lips.

I have never really talked to him about his family but the more time I spend with him, the more curious I become. And his soon-to-be born sibling is something I’ve been thinking about a lot.

“Fuck if I know.” His words are clipped and I can tell I hit a nerve. “How did you even know about that?”

“Brennon told me she’s pregnant,” I admit.

“Brennon needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.”

“Hey.” I press up in bed, angling my body toward him. I can see him well enough to know he’s not looking at me, but staring straight at the wall instead. “What’s the big deal?”

“The big deal is, I don’t want to talk about it.”

“But you’re going to be a big brother, aren’t you excited?”
