“I’ll have food brought up to my room,” he assures me, glancing over with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I haven’t waited this long to be quick. I plan to take my time making you shatter.”

I stare at the profile of his face in disbelief, my stomach knotting tighter. Despite hearing the words and following his lead, it still seems a bit surreal. I feel like I could wake up at any moment and find myself staring at the familiar ceiling of my room, weighed down with disappointment. However, the steady tap of my feet against the marble and the firm, veiny feel of Nor’s forearm beneath my fingertips are too real for me to deny the truth.

I’m on my way to get railed by a minotaur.

And I’m ready.

IthinkI’m ready.

At the very least, I’m somewhat ready, and I’ll adapt to and overcome anything I’m not ready for. That’s pretty much my motto with everything in life: figure it out or fake it so well, everyone thinks I know what I’m doing.

I haven’t learned the halls that lead to Nor’s room, but I know one thing for certain: it’s nowhere near mine. Unfamiliar paintings decorate the walls, and I haven’t seen any other gold carpet in the castle like the one that runs the length of the hall leading to his room. Impressive lanterns hang on either side of a glossy black door, and a clunky golden doorknocker the size of my head adorns the middle of it.

I can tell before he opens the door that there’s nothing subtle when it comes to his bedchamber, and my suspicions are confirmed when we step inside.

The level of grandeur is almost sickening, but I can’t stop drinking in every detail of it from just inside the doorway. Where my room feels bright, light, and airy compared to the rest of the castle’s interior, Nor’s room is bold and vibrant, dripping in rich colors. It’s also twice the size of my room, which isn’t small by any means.

To our right, a foursome of red velvet sofas and chairs surround a wide fireplace. They’re lined in ornate gold details, and a swatch of gold stretches up from the mantle to a domed ceiling entirely covered in intricate paintings. From a quick glance I can tell there’s a myriad of minotaurs and other creatures woven throughout various scenes, but my eyes don’t linger there long. They pass over a glimmering chandelier and land on the left side of the room, where a stone bath the same color as the sapphires in my tiara is carved into the floor. It could easily fit the entire royal family, sitting in front of a wall of mirrors that reflect the vibrant blue walls.

I slowly drag my gaze back to the middle of the room and my jaw drops when I acknowledge the bed. It’s massive—bigger than any bed I’ve ever seen—with scarlet fabric draped above a towering headboard, and a footboard engraved with two snarling beasts biting at each other’s throats. Nor has a thing for violence, but he also clearly enjoys luxury.

“Wow,” I breathe, taking in more details the longer I stand there, feeling like I’ve stepped into a different world. Glittering fixtures. Polished tables with marble tops. A wardrobe twice my height in the corner.

It’s way too much for my taste, but I can appreciate the labor that went into constructing it. It’s nothing short of breathtaking.

When I look over, I find Nor’s chin upturned, a smirk on his face. He’s clearly proud of the dwelling and is enjoying every second of my reaction.

“This is incredible,” I say, but I’m sure he already knows that. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so smug.

“It is,” he agrees. “Wait until you see the bathroom.”

I arch a brow, wondering why he has a bath large enough for a wrestling match if he has a bathroom somewhere else. He gestures to a closed door opposite the wardrobe that my eyes glossed over the first time.

“Is it huge?”

“I think that’s a matter of opinion,” he says with a shrug. “But I’ve been told I’m above average.”

I cock my head to the side, confused until he drops his gaze to the front of his pants, and I blanch. Did this brutish mountain of a man… just make a dick joke?

The roar of laughter he makes afterwards tells me he did.

I roll my eyes, trying to seem annoyed, but I can’t help but chuckle a little by the unexpectedness of it. Besides, I’m well aware of how huge he is. He doesn’t have to joke about it for me to know it’s nearly more than I can handle.

My stomach pitches toward the floor at the thought of his girth pressing inside me, stretching and filling me until I’m unable to take anymore. It gives me chills, making it harder to force air into my lungs. What if I’m not able to take it and everything gets awkward? Will he be disappointed if I can’t live up to everything he imagined?

Panic sets in, causing my pulse to quicken, and Nor looks over, concerned.

“Irissa,” he says, bending slightly at the waist to get my attention. “Are you okay?”

His concern for my wellbeing is endearing, but I’m too distracted to really acknowledge it. My mind is warped by thoughts of my naked body spread across the enormous bed in front of us and Nor—

“I’m fine,” I answer numbly, my legs already trembling in anticipation.

He shifts toward me, and I jump unintentionally, trying to cover it up my crossing my arms over the jeweled front of my dress. The gems bite sharply at my skin, but I barely register the pain. Fear has swallowed my body, dulling my senses.

Moving closer, he slides one of his massive hands along the side of my neck, cupping it behind my head. His palm and fingers are taut like the rest of him, bulging with muscles, but when he tilts my head back gently, I melt beneath his touch. I never imagined he could be so gentle.

I imagine he knows how easily he can break me, and he wants to take extra care to keep me intact. That is, until he’s finished with me.
