She disappears after handing us our cups. We laugh a little.

“Well, she’s up for it,” my friend tells me. “Can I ask why you want her there, too?”

“I feel like I need her there; like I shouldn’t be with anyone else like that unless she’s there.”

“Because you think it’s breaking some rule or something?”

“We don’t talk about it, but I don’t think she’s with anyone when we’re not together, either.”

“Well, that’s dangerous,” my friend tells me. “But you know how I feel about this, so I’ll shut up.”

“I can’t explain how I feel about her. I do know that it’s not just sex, though.”

“You’re not asking for my advice, but you need to just hook up with someone. Get on an app, swipe whatever direction you’re supposed to, and fuck their brains out. Get her out of your system because she’s not real, babe. She’s someone that will leave you one day. She’ll get bored of the parties or move out of the city. She’ll meet someone herself, assuming she hasn’t already, and maybe she’ll stop coming because she’s in love, and they’re not into it. It’s not meant to last, and you deserve something lasting.”

“Okay, are we really talking about a foursome here?” my friend’s wife asks as she walks back into the room.

MONTH 9. PART 1. – Expect the Unexpected

(POV Member)

“Hey stranger,” I say when I sidle up to her, giddy with anticipation for this night.

Work has been particularly difficult lately, and my mother has pushed yet another lesbian on me, saying she wants grandkids sooner rather than later, and if I want to have them by myself, I need to find someone now. It’s funny the first time she brings it up. Then, it’s just annoying. I wonder if I’ll ever be like this to my own kids, hope not, and then decide to focus on the gorgeous woman in front of me that I haven’t seen in a month.

“I was worried you might not come,” she says.

“I told you I’d be here.” I take her hand.

“You’re just late.”

“Sorry, I got stuck at home with some work stuff to take care of.”

“Isn’t it the weekend?”

“Yes, but it was a client thing, so I had to call them. I’m here now, though. Missed me that much, huh?” I tease hopefully.

“Yes,” she replies with her perfect smile.

“We should get a room before they fill up,” I suggest, nodding toward the stairs.

“Can we talk first?” she asks.

“Of course, we can talk,” I say, hoping she knows that we can always just talk – I don’t come here only for sex. “We can find the room and talk as long as you want, babe.”

“It has to do with the room,” she says, walking us to the sofa and sitting down.

I sit down next to her. I notice women making out in the corner, but I don’t care about them right now. I’m worried about her.

“Is this yours?” I ask when I notice the bag at her feet.

“Yes,” she says.

“Can’t wait to see what’s inside.” I squeeze her hand. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing.”

“I can tell something’s up. Are you okay? We don’t have–”
