Or would it?

Especially considering who she’d been with before…

“Tati!”

The sudden intrusion of a voice in my space made me jump, and I looked up to see that Brandon had invited himself in.

“I’ve been meaning to tell you, the rose quartz nipple clamps in that set? You were really in your bag with those.”

I rolled my eyes. I was caught off guard by his – uninvited – presence in my workspace, but definitely not surprised by it.

“The words coming out of your face imply you thought I was waiting on an update,” I quipped. “As if Iwantedthat information. And we both know that’s not true.”

“What?” he asked, coming to stand right beside me, and leaning down, peering at the small ring I was creating. “I thought every small business thrived on customer satisfaction surveys.Especiallysatisfied.” He winked at me.

“I really hate you,” I replied, making him laugh as I put my tools down and straightened up, turning to look him in the face. “Why are you here anyway?”

He raised an eyebrow at me, shaking his head before he gestured at his clothes, a full-blown suit, much more formal than his usual jeans, t-shirt or crew neck, and fresh sneakers. “We’ve gotta swing byAllure, then got a meeting atReverie… remember?”

I frowned, then reached for my cell phone to check the screen for the time.

“Oh shit!” I hurriedly removed my gloves, tossing them beside my protective apron. “Shit. Give me like twenty minutes,”I called behind me as I rushed out of the room.

Brandon chuckled. “Tati, relax. It’s not the end of the world if we’re a few minutes late.”

“It’s not a great impression to set with people we need help from though,” I countered, stopping at my bedroom door.

Shit.

I’d forgotten all about Kev on the other side, and the chances of himnotslowing me down were slim to none.

“I already handled your lightweight,” Brandon said, laughing, from right behind me. “Sent him on his way. You’re welcome,” he said, as I peeked into the door to confirm what he was saying.

“Thank you,” I told him, on the other side of a relieved sigh that made Brandon suck his teeth.

“Why are you even fuckin’ with Kev?” he asked. “He’s… a bit too low on the totem pole if you know what I mean. It’s not...”

“A good look? Like the princess ofHamilton Luxury Transport?” I teased him.

Not because I didn’t think Nessa Hamilton was a good look for him; sheabsolutelywas. In the short time they’d been doing whatever they were doing, I could already see a tiny change in him.

For the better.

He wasn’t as reckless, which was important for the current climate.

“I ain’t saying you gotta get some oil baron or something like that, it’s just... I’on know. He’s a little corny. Why you think I don’t want him near thePredatorsmoney?”

I nodded, because… well… Kevwasa little corny. But he was fine, which served my purposes, and good with numbers, which could have potentially served the club. I understood why Brandon didn’t want him in the treasurer role though, even though Kev had campaigned hard for it.

It was more likely to go to Gavin, who was like us, a legacy member, whose father was one of the OGs in the club. He was great with numbers too; his father had served as treasurer before the day we quietly referred to asThe Fall. But, more importantly, nobody fucked with Ghost.

With a nickname like that, who would?

Kev, on the other hand was… approachable.

“You act like I’m marrying him or something,” I quipped, heading to my closet, grateful I’d already showered the night before. “He’s a good time, not a long time, and I like to think everybody is clear on that.”

When I popped back out of the closet, Brandon was shaking his head.
