“If I was CIA, I would just kill you for blowing my cover.” He laughed.

“It’s not a joke!” Pure frustration fueled my actions as I launched myself at him, fists swinging. I managed to clock him against the side of the head, but it was a glancing blow that didn’t affect him as he easily pushed me away.

“Stop.” He chuckled, which only pissed me off more. “I’mnotjoking. You’ve been digging into shit you had no business digging in, and it could have gotten your ass in trouble.Realtrouble.”

“Real trouble withwho? Withwho?!” I repeated, following as he turned and took it upon himself to go deeper into my damn house, stopping in my kitchen. “And you still haven’t answered how the fuck you got in here!”

“The same way I would have gotten in anywhere. A very special set of skills,” he said, taking the liberty of opening my fridge and picking a box of Chinese takeout. I watched, stunned, as he didn’t even bother with a fork; he just opened it and started eating my noodles with his fingers.

“You’re ananimal,” I huffed, even as I made sure to keep my distance. It wasn’t lost on me that he’d confirmed all my worst suspicions, and now he was in my house.

Alone.

And nobody knew he was here.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, backing into the doorway in case I needed to take off running to get away from him.

He may have disarmed me once, but it wouldn’t happen again.

He met my gaze, smirking at me as if he knew why I wasn’t closer. “Making sure Alicia and her flunkies didn’t kick your ass.”

So he definitely knows about that…

I scoffed. “What were you going to do if they did?”

“Actually…” He stopped eating to look off in the distance, then shrugged. “I don’t know. Idoknow nobody would have been happy about it.” He shot me a grin, then stuck another pinch of noodles in his mouth.

He was incredibly nonchalant about the fact that he’d broken into my home, scared the shit out of me, and now he was just… eating my damn food.

Ihated that the energy of it was so…

Attractive.

That was the word I didn’t want to find—the truth I didn’t want to accept about why his very existence bothered me so much.

Crossing my arms, I shook off the unwelcome feeling. “I was laying in here concerned that maybe I’d gotten youkilled. Yet here you are, being a fucking menace.”

He stared at me a moment, his dark eyes boring into mine, searching for something like always. Then he grinned, and it hit me like a jolt between the legs. “I think you like it.”

Uncomfortable with how right he was, I shifted where I stood, glaring at him. “Why the hell would I enjoy having somebody constantly on my nerves?” I asked, halfway hoping he had an actual answer.

He dragged his teeth over his bottom lip, swiping a hand over his chin before he shrugged. “Because you’re bored.”

“Bored?” I drew my head back and chuckled. “When exactly would I find time to bebored, considering who I am, and what I do?

He shook his head, and then over another mouthful of my noodles, said, “You misunderstand. I think you’re bored in a veryparticularmanner that I’m too much of a gentleman to specify.”

“And I think that boredom draws you righthere,” he added, pointing at his chest with a wink that said it all, and…

Shit.

I huffed, refusing to let him think he was right, not easily, at least. “Are youreallyflipping this whole fucked-up visit into telling me you think I’m not getting fucked right?”

“Iknowyou’re not getting fucked right. Not if we’re talking aboutKev,” he said, putting a very particular twang on Kev that almost made me laugh.

Almost.

“This is part of it, right?” I asked, frustration driving me to put my fear aside and stalk up to the counter as he continued digging into my food with his damn hands. “Your act? You charm people, you put on a show. The tattoos, the locs, the earring, the grill, the whole…vibe. Is that even real, or is this just a job for you? This is your costume? Me and Brandon marks?”
