He shrugged, then gave me a full-blown grin, briefly flashing a mouthful of glittering adornments at me. “I’m good if you are, doll.”

Ugh.

Honestly, thatalone was enough to reconsider shooting him. Or at least a little light pistol-whipping.

I didn’t get the opportunity for either; he was already headed down the hall, swaggering past Kev and looking him right in the face as he did, without even a hint of a smile.

Kev glowered right back at him. “Ay, you got something you need me to handle?” he asked once Onyx was well past and I’d caught up to where he was standing.

“It’s already beenhandled,” I said, waving a hand in the direction he’d gone. “But thanks for offering. What are you doing here?”

He shrugged a bit, scratching at his neck, where his own ink was covered by his collar. “Seeing if Blue was back yet, so I could holla at him.”

“About the treasurer role?” I asked, but I already knew that answer.

Kev was a money guy, hence the collar and shit in the middle of the day. He’d been inked about a year or so ago, and even though he’d earned it like everybody else –almosteverybody else – it still barely felt real to me.

He wasn’t quite like the rest of us.

He was… clean cut.

And fine as shit, honestly.

He flashed me an embarrassed grin full of pretty white teeth, and I laughed, shaking my head.

“He won’t be back until later tonight, after their run,” I explained for the second, maybe third time. “But I promise you, he’ll have a decision soon.”

He stepped in toward me a little closer. “Will Ilikethe decision?”

“I don’t know what you like,” I countered, wrinkling my nose.

“I beg to differ,” he smirked, chuckling when I dodged his attempt to grab me.

“Not right now,” I told him. “I’ve got somewhere to be.”

“Later, then?”

I thought about it, then nodded. “Later.”
