“You better not be talking about Tati.”

“No!” he yelped. “Not… not Ta—”

“Don’t you fucking say her name,” I growled, pressing the gun right between his eyebrows as he blubbered.

“No. It’s one of the dancers. AtAllure. She just… she just told me, and…please,”he pleaded.

“Don’t beg me for shit—especiallynot your miserable life. Not having you around would be doing that child and its mother a favor. As a matter of fact…” I sighed, then walked a few steps away and shot him again, in the hand this time.

I waited until he’d stopped screaming to start talking again. “If I put a bullet through your head right now… It would be the best gift anyone ever gave a child.”

“Please! I can do better. I can be better, I swear.” He kept up his pitiful petitioning, and I shook my head.

“Your begging doesn’t mean shit to me. As a matter of fact—it’s negative points. ’Cause I’ve got a question…” I bent down, pressing the barrel of the gun right under his chin this time. “Did Tati beg you?” I asked. “After she was considerate enough to let you in her fucking house, did shebeg younot to do what you did?”

He looked away, trembling in pain.

I shoved the gun against his throat. “Answer me!”

“Y-ye-yes,” he managed to choke out, and it took everything in me not to put a bullet in his head right then.

Onlybecause my instructions were to deliver him alive did I take a step back, trying to reel myself in.

“But you did it anyway,” I said, repulsed by his blubbering face. “So explain to me why the fuck you think you deserve more grace than you gave her?Huh!?” I kicked him again, then walked away, putting some distance between us before I did worse.

All that crying and whining and begging, but nothing to say for himself.

Piece of shit.

“No answer? Right. You can’t answer. Don’t even fucking try it,” I said, watching, bored, as he managed to shakily pull a gun from his waistband. I didn’t even move as he aimed it erratically in my direction and pulled the trigger.

The bullet hit the wall a solid six feet away from me.

I sauntered up as he struggled to aim again, bending to easily take it right from his fingers. “Do you know what an apex predator is?” I asked. “Let me define it for you. An apex predator is the top of the food chain in their respective ecologies. Sharks dominate the water, lions dominate the Sahara, men dominate humanity. You’ve heard of this, right?”

When he nodded, I scoffed.

“Yeah, I bet you have. I bet you think you’re some sort ofalpha male, high-value man, right? Thatbullshit. The shit men like you, who shouldn’t even breathe the same air as women like Tati, believe. But let me tell you something, you are thebottomof the fucking barrel. You and people like you, who abuse women, kids, people weaker than you—you are the dirt under the feet of men like me.”

I stood up, putting a boot to his head, and pressing down, ignoring his screams. “I could kill you, and not even flinch about it. Iwantto kill you. But I won’t.”

“Thank you! Thank—”

“Don’t thank me,” I growled at him, grinding my foot into his scalp. “Other people are questioning why you didn’t just kill Tati when you did what you did to her. They think it makes no sense. But I understand you, Kev.” I laughed, mushing his head in with my foot, causing another pained groan before I moved away. “You wanted her to live with it. So I want you to live withthis. We’re not going to give you to Tati today. You see, she’s probably still processing, you know?”

I crossed my arms, nodding.

“We’re going towait.” I grinned. “Because whatIthink is going to happen, is that there is going to come a point – I don’t know when, but it’s going to come – when she isn’t going to feel afraid, or lost, or hurt, or confused by what you did anymore. She is going to getvery, very, very, very, fucking angry. Andthat’swhen we’re going to give you to her.” I laughed. “You’re going to live withthat. While you wait.”

“I’m not going to live with shit, you shot me!” he exclaimed. “And you’re standing here letting me bleed out!”

“Stop whining like a fucking baby; you’re not going to bleed out,” I told him. “This is why I like to use small caliber weapons. In the right places, they don’t do lethaldamage,” I explained. “And I am going to shoot you in all those places, until my clip is empty. You’ll live. But man… you willsuffer.”

I smiled, crouching in front of him again, enjoying the pure terror on his face.

“I’ve gotta admit, Ilovethis journey for you, Kev.”
