“That’s been me, for the last two weeks,” she revealed. “And I’m sick of it. Over it.”

“Understandable, but that’s not a lot of time.”

She closed her eyes. “It’s just so fucking frustrating. Everybody says to just give it time, but I don’twantto give it time. I want to be whole. I know that’s not realistic,” she quickly added, holding up her hands. “But knowing that it’s out of reach, I’ll settle for something familiar at least. Like in the kitchen the other day.”

“In the kitchen?” I asked, so wrapped up in listening that I was momentarily clueless until she smirked.

“When I kissed you.”

Oh.

Shit.

When did she walk over here?

One moment, she was across the room, and the next, she was right in front of me, staring up to meet my gaze. “Was it that forgettable?”

She asked that question in a soft whisper, as she put a hand to my stomach.

“No,” I answered immediately. “I haven’t stopped thinking about it.”

She smiled. “Good.”

Good?

In that whisper, with those eyes, and that smile, and her hand slipping under my t-shirt... She was a fuckingmonster.

“Can I tell you something?” she asked, standing so close that the heat from her body was permeating my clothes.

“Yeah.” I probably would’ve given an affirmative answer toanythingshe asked me when she was looking at me the way she was, touching me like she was, near enough to count her damn eyelashes if I wanted.

“I was gonna fuck you.”

All the air left my lungs. “What?”

“You heard me.”

I did.

But…shit.

My eyebrows went up. “That day in the kitchen?” I asked and she shook her head.

“No. Before that. I hadn’t admitted it to myself yet, but the energy we had… thechemistrywe had… that tension, and animosity, with no real reason? It only ever would’ve been solved without clothes,” she said, her lips turning up into a little grin. “It was inevitable. I know exactly what I was gonna do to you.”

“Do to me.” I chuckled, biting down on my lip. “So you weren’t playing, you were gonnafuckme.”

“Yeah.” She laughed. “And now…” Her gaze dropped, the humor suddenly gone, replaced by this pained expression that made my chest feel tight. “Now it’s like… I don’t even know that girl anymore, the one who would do something like that so freely. Sohappily. I’m… shit.” She blew out a sigh, abruptly stepping back. “I don’t even know why I’m talking about this —you didn’t come over here for this.”

“I didn’t, but we can talk about it,” I told her, grabbing her hand to keep her from walking away.

“There’s nothing to talk about. I don’t have anything to say,” she denied.

“Listen then,” I said, already knowing I was about to fuck up. Her eyes were glossy with tears, again, probably more frustration than anything, and I couldn’t blame her.

“This is stupid,” she huffed. “To be bothered about such a thing—”

“It’s not stupid,” I cut her off. “Stop saying that. It bothers you because it was important –isimportant to you – to get this dick and I get it ’cause it’s impeccable, so—”
