Fuck.

I looked up to find Keira standing in the doorway, looking wholly unsurprised by Onyx’s presence. In fact, she didn’t look at him at all, focusing very purposely only on my face to tell me, “Blue called again. If there’s a need to avoid suspicion… we should probably head out soon.”

I nodded. “Thank you.”

“No problem.”

I could’ve sworn there was a little smirk on her lips as she slipped away from the door, but I had a more pressing matter to attend.

“Where are you going to go?” I asked him, knowing there was a fair chance he’d feel like he couldn’t tell me. But Ihoped—

“Alicia’s,” he said, grabbing my hands. He pulled them up, examining the bruise on my wrist. “How did this happen?”

“Finally talked to Kev. I don’t think his dick will be usable for a good long while.”

“So you went easy on him.”

I laughed at that conclusion. “I guess you could say that.”

“Did you tell Alicia your father was aThorn?”

“No.” I shook my head. “I wasn’t quite ready to divulge that.”

“I don’t share your hesitation,” Onyx countered. “There’s been a lot of new information made available in the last twenty-four hours, which could answer a lot of questions we’ve had about Renard and what he’s doing here. I need to tell her that.”

I nodded. “I understand. But… I want to propose a trade.”

He raised an eyebrow. “A trade?”

“Yeah.” I pulled the picture from where it had been in my pocket, slipping it into his instead. “You can tell Alicia whatever you need to. But… if you decide to leave, don’t do it without talking to your brother.”

Onyx blew out a sigh, shaking his head. “I think he would take exception to being called that.”

“I don’t care. You sharePredatorink and you sharePredatorblood.Under messed up circumstances, sure, but… all the same.”

“I can’t promise you that.”

“You can,” I argued. “And youwill.Okay?”

I met his gaze, not backing down until he rolled his eyes and gave me thetiniestpossible nod of assent. “Fine,” he mumbled. “Is that it?”

“No,” I told him, reaching for my necklace. I had it unclasped, off, and on him, fastening the delicate chain and rose quartz charm on him before he registered what was happening.

“What are you doing?” he asked, peering down in an attempt to see it.

“Balancing you,” I said. “I understand more now, why your mother named you what she did. Onyxcanbe representative of suffering and sorrow, but rose quartz is… love and light. Maybe this will give you some harmony.”

He didn’t say anything to that… and he didn’t take the necklace off.

He tucked the stone under his shirt, and then pulled me in, dropping his mouth to mine for a kiss that warmed me to my toes.

And then he was gone.
