I lean back against the railing and watch as the women move about Connor’s penthouse, cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Tipping my glass to my lips, I swallow down a mouthful of whiskey as I notice my woman laugh at something our Ma has said.

Ten years, ten incredible years she’s been by my side. We’ve been by each other’s side through so much, I couldn’t imagine my life without her, and I can’t wait until she’s finally an O’Farrell.

“Kill, bro, are you fucking listening?”

I sigh and glare at Connor.

“Yes, I’m listening. Where the fuck is Finn? He needs to be here for this.”

“Ma called him and asked him to pick something up for the dinner on his way back from the club, he should be here in a few minutes.”

I shake my head and down the rest of my glass. Connor and I spend the next twenty-five minutes talking about nothing important, waiting for Finn to show.

“Shitheads, you two want a top up?” Finn asks as he steps out onto the balcony.

Both Connor and I nod, holding out our glasses to him as he closes the doors before filling our glasses and taking a seat next to Connor.

“So… Ronan… any ideas?”

I sigh, shaking my head.

“We’re losing him… Rory was the only one that could bring him back from the darkness, and now that he’s gone, Ronan is on a solid path to self-destruction.”

“What if we brought Ma in on this?”

“Are you fucking crazy, Connor? You want to go in there and tell Ma that one of her boys is travelling the world, literally tearing apart the people who may know where her nephew is, all so he can end him?”

“Don’t be such a dick about it. I’m doing my best to try and think of a way to save him, and you and I both know that Ma ain’t no shrinking violet. She’s seen almost as much as we have.”

He’s right, Ma was the Queen of the syndicate, she lived this life with Da. I look at my brothers. We know bringing her in isn’t really an option and we need to figure out how to save him before she loses another child.

“So, what do we do then? How do we save him from himself?” Finn asks, looking at Connor and I with a worried expression marring his face.

I have no idea how to answer him. None of us know how Rory used to bring Ronan back from the darkness before it consumed him, they always had this weird connection, but it was like Rory knew how to flip the switch back before he was too far gone.

“Liv.”

We were all so focussed on trying to figure out the answer that none of us heard Alex join us on the balcony.

“Angel?” Connor holds out his hand for her. She smiles, taking it as he pulls her onto his lap, and he instantly starts kissing her neck––the man can’t keep his hands off her. I get it, he fell pretty damn hard for her, and almost lost her last year.

“Liv… you’ve seen the way he looks at her, you’ve seen the look he gets when he sees her… hell, when he thinks about her.”

“Wait, she’s right.”

“What the hell are you talking about, Finn?”

“Don’t you boys remember? The day at the club when he realised she was working there, he had Dan by the throat and we thought he was going to fucking kill him, but she pulled him out of it, she literally brought him back from the darkness… she’s the key.”

I take a glance at Alex and notice her smile as she nods, then I turn and stare at Finn, astounded… the little fucker is right. I turn to Connor and see the look in his eyes, he’s thinking the same thing I am. How the fuck did we not see it sooner?

This woman is going to help us keep our brother from sinking into the pits of hell, only she doesn’t know it yet.
