“What did I say? Oh God, I was drunk, I’m sorry…”

“Mmm, please, nobody likes Josie, the woman is a skank who will do anything to get with any one of the guys. She thinks being with them will give her some sort of status. What did you say about her?”

“How the hell do I know? I drank just as much as you.”

“Geez, you two. You told us last night that you’ve seen her all over Ronan a few times. You even said you saw Ronan letting her flirt with him.”

“Yeah, that was before anything happened between us. They were flirting in the club one night. Wait, I really told you that?”

“You did. You also told us that you and Josie have been having problems for a while.”

Shit. My eyes almost pop out of my head. I don’t remember telling them about Josie. Clearly, the alcohol turned me stupid last night––I need to figure out how to fix this. I can’t have them thinking I’m trying to cause trouble. As much as I can’t stand Josie, I can’t have them thinking that I’m the type of person that runs my mouth just because I don’t like someone.

“Guys, listen, I’m sorry, I have no recollection of saying anything about Josie. Please can you just forget whatever I said? I don’t want to cause trouble, I’m sorry.”

“Hey.” Alex stops me, reaching across the counter, grabbing my hands in hers. “You weren’t trying to cause trouble––in fact, you actually said to us so many times last night that you were sorry and you didn’t want to cause trouble. We forced you to tell us what was going on… well, I forced you, Bella I think was trying to force you, but she was so drunk she made very little sense.

“I’m more concerned with you telling me you don’t trust her and that you’re worried she’ll pull something and force you out. She won’t force you out––we won’t let her, okay? You’re our friend, Liv, you just have to talk to us.”

“What she said, I need more coffee,” Bella grumbles, sliding off her stool and grabbing another coffee from the machine, when there is a banging on my apartment door.

“Oh, make it stop.” Bella scrunches her eyes, and both Alex and I laugh her.

“You don’t handle a hangover well, girl, you should really not drink so much,” Alex calls out as she answers my door.

“Ladies.” Killian strolls in and heads straight for Bella, taking her in his arms and kissing her forehead.

“Babe, what are you doing here? I thought we were just going to get a car back to yours later?”

“Ah, yeah, you are. I need to talk to Liv.”

“Me? Why? What did I do?”

He doesn’t say anything, just raises an eyebrow at me, and it’s a little intimidating.

“Have you heard from Ronan?”

“He text me a couple of times yesterday, said he would see me today, said he would pick me up around three, but I haven’t heard anything since that text. Why?”

“We got back in around one this morning, he was meant to meet us at the gym, around eight, but he never showed and hasn’t answered our calls or texts. I’ve checked his apartment, it’s empty.

While we were away, he was, erm… he had a tough time. I’m just a little worried about him. I was hoping you’d seen him.”

My heart drops, and I hate that he is having such a tough time. I shake my head at Killian. “I haven’t seen or heard from him, but I think I might know where he’ll be.”

Chapter 29

Ronan

I have no idea how long I’ve been sitting here for; I do know it was dark when I arrived, and sunrise came and went a while ago.

I couldn’t sleep when I got back, so I just put on some joggers, trainers and a hoody and headed out for a run. I didn’t intend to come here, it’s just where I ended up.

I feel her even before I hear her, she’s close, and I suddenly feel calmer.

She sits down beside me, not saying anything. Then I feel a hand on my shoulder and Killian sits on my other side.

“We missed you at the gym this morning.”
