Her bedtime is seven.

Finn

Yup. Talk to you at eight!

“You know, by the time you get out of here, Maddie is gonna have a new bedtime if Finn has anything to do with it.” She laughs as I hand her a cup of coffee.

“Yeah, let’s hope I’m not stuck in here too long.” She takes a big sip of her coffee. “Mmm, this is crap, but is also really good.”

“Vending machine coffee, sweetheart, best I could do on short notice.” I climb back onto the bed, taking the coffee out of her hands and placing it on the bedside cabinet. I kiss her like it’s the first time in a long time.

“What was that for?”

“The bad coffee, and just because.”

I pass her the coffee and settle her back in my arms. “We need talk about when you get out of here. You can’t live alone, so you and I will be moving in with Ma for a bit.”

“And Maddie?”

“Ha, babe, she may only be three but she is mighty, she already claimed a bedroom for herself.”

“She did?”

“Yeah, they are decorating it for her tomorrow.”

“Oh lord, she is so demanding. She’s okay though, yeah?”

“She’s doing good. She’s fine.”

Chapter 36

Liv

Damn I’m bored. Six days I’ve been in this place, six days I’ve been without my baby girl. I’ve seen her every day––Finn or Mary bring her in every morning, and I video call her before bed every night. She has Finn wrapped around her little finger, her new bedtime is eight p.m., and she has informed me that for one night every month she has to stay at Finn’s. If I didn’t think Finn enjoyed spending time with her so much, I’d tell her to no, but he seems to enjoy it just as much as she does, if not more.

“Hey there, girl, how you feeling?” Bells strides into my hospital room, like she doesn’t have a care in the world.

“Hey, what are you doing here?” I pull myself into a sitting position as she hands me a cup a of coffee.

“Figured you’d be bored of Ronan… just as bored as I am of Killian. Have you noticed how grumpy they are right now?” She climbs up onto the side of the bed, using the chair as a stepping stool and a footrest.

“Yeah, I’d noticed Ronan was quieter than normal.”

Bella scoffs, almost choking on her coffee. “Is that even possible? So when are you getting out of here?”

“The doc said as long as I’m still clear of infection, I can leave in the morning. He seemed pretty happy with my progress.”

“That’s good. Killian mentioned that you tried to discharge yourself after two days…”

“Yeah, I just… I didn’t think it was necessary for me to stay in any longer than two days.”

“Really? You were shot, they had to repair some damage to your spleen, and you didn’t think you needed to be in here why?”

“It’s just an unnecessary cost, that’s all. I can rest at home.”

Thankfully, she gives me a half smile and changes the subject. I do not want to think about how the hell I’m going to pay for my medical bills or take care of Maddie if I can’t work.

We spend the next few hours talking about how well her business is doing, and the wedding they still haven’t set a date for. She claims they are both so busy they just haven’t gotten around to it, but I feel like there might be more to it than that.
