I feel a small sense of satisfaction. I got some revenge, J paid for what he did––the parts he played in hurting Alex, and killing Rory.

My demon is soothed for now, but I know that he won’t be fully satisfied until I’ve exacted my revenge with Liam. I’ll make him pay, more than J did.

Epilogue

Ronan

Two days later and we’re all in Ma’s, having breakfast. Liv and Bella are discussing the job opportunity that Bella offered her. I’m so fucking proud of my woman, she’s so strong and independent. I told her she didn’t need to work, but she isn’t the type to let a man control her.

Alex is on Connor’s lap, laughing at something he said, and it’s good to see them both so relaxed.

I look over at Kill, his hand wrapped around Bella’s, his eyes always fixed on her, like he’s afraid she’ll disappear.

I guess we’re all worried. We eliminated the threat from J, but an even bigger threat is out there in the form of family, and we have no idea where he is.

The fact that he’s teamed up with the Italians only makes it worse––we’ve increased our security teams.

Killian convinced Bella to move her office into the same building where Alex works, so at least they are together and have a bigger team watching over them.

Ma and Niamh are as stubborn as ever. Living in this life, they don’t think they need anyone to watch over them, so are refusing security. Little do they know we still have a small team on them. I’m sure we’ll be in for shit when they find out.

I don’t care how mad they are, I need to know they are safe.

I watch Maddie sitting on Finn’s knee, listening to him intently tell her a story about a unicorn and a knight, and of course the knight has red hair and green eyes.

She’s so innocent and spirited––the level of love she shows is astounding. We have her enrolled in a local school, where we were allowed to let her security team in with her full time. Dan was promoted from bar manager to Maddie’s security.

Turns out, the man is former military and has skills. Finn used him to help grab J and Josie.

After that, he deserved something more, so we approached him about doing security and he jumped at it.

Maddie seems to like him, she trusts him, and we know he’ll keep her safe.

We didn’t torture Josie, she gave everything up the moment we walked in the door, but once she told us everything, we knew we couldn’t let her live. She kept ranting about how Alex got in the way of her and Connor and Liv in the way of her and I––the woman was fucking crazy.

Kill pulled the trigger, and he seemed to do it without hesitation. I would have done it, but I think he didn’t want me to have that on my conscience. Truth is, it wouldn’t have bothered me––knowing how much of a part she played in everything, and how long she had been betraying us.

Turns out, she’d been listening into conversations for years, and when Rory died, she took the opportunity to plant bugs to catch the conversations she missed.

All she wanted was power, and when we wouldn’t give her the time of day, Liam saw it as an opportunity to get what he wanted.

Never mind, it’s done now. One threat eradicated, on to the next.

I sit back in my chair; Liv leans back, kissing my cheek. “You okay?”

“I am, mo ghrá, I really am.” I pull her to me, wrapping my arms around her as Connor’s phone rings. We all turn to him, and his brow furrows as he answers the call on speaker.

“Seamus, to what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Connor, where is that little prick of a kid brother? He won’t answer his phone.”

“Hold up, Seamus, we have a kid in the room.”

We turn to Maddie, but Liv, Bella and Alex have already gotten up and grabbed her. Liv winks at me, and I smile as I watch her leave the room.

“Okay, Seamus, we’re good. Now, what’s my kid brother done?”

We all glare at Finn, waiting for Seamus to fill us in. Ma stands with her hands on her hips, and I’m relieved I’m not on the receiving end of her wrath.
