“Fucking hell, Finn,” Killian bellows at him as Ma clips him over the head.
“Ouch.” He doesn’t say anything else, just shrinks into his seat from the look Ma’s giving him.
“Connor… I need you to help me.”
“I understand that what Finn did was pretty shitty, but I’m not sure what you need my help with.”
“Da agreed an arranged marriage with José Carrera years ago. The agreement was she should remain a virgin, but that’s not the case now. The marriage is still going ahead…”
“Again, Seamus, I don’t know what you think I can help with.”
There’s a sigh on the other end of the line, and we know he’s battling with telling us the truth. He’s going against his Da, the leader of the O’Malley crime family back in Ireland, and his Da won’t take too kindly to this.
“She’s a handful, she doesn’t want to be controlled or told what to do. She’s my kid sister, Connor, but there’s something else you should know… she’s pregnant.”
“You got her pregnant?” Killian bellows again as Connor and I stare at him, not sure what to say. Ma huffs out her disappointment and slumps into a chair.
“Hold on, we used protection, I can’t help it if the condom breaks, and she said she was on birth control.” While he defends the outcome of his actions, I get the impression he isn’t actually mad about it. I see the corners of his mouth curl up into what appears to be a smile, ever so slightly.
“Can we not have that conversation about my sister, please? Look, this marriage was meant to be alliance. Da and José are going to make her have an abortion and force her to marry that arse anyway…”
Finn jumps up from his seat. “Like fuck they are. Your family wants an alliance, then they can have one… get her on the next flight out, I’ll arrange everything.”
He turns to leave, but Killian stops him. “Finn, arrange what?”
“The wedding. Cara and that baby belong to me––they’re mine. The wedding will be in the next month.”
