“Oh God, no… what is it?”

A knocking at the door distracts the brothers long enough for me to pull out of Finn’s grasp. He stands at the same time I do, pulling me back to him as Killian gets up. “I’ll get the door; you keep her calm.”

Finn turns me to face him, tilting my face up. “I will answer, but on the condition that you remain calm. I won’t have you putting yourself or the baby under any unnecessary stress, do you understand me?”

“How dare you tell me what unnecessary stress is. This is my brother we’re talking about, Finn, you can’t expect me not to be stressed.”

He leans in, his lips a hairs breath from mine, and his hands cup my face. “I understand he is your brother, and you will be stressed, and rightly so, but it is unnecessary until we know if we have something to be stressed about. So, you take a breath and sit down, and you will listen to me before you lose it. Do I make myself clear, princess?”

I roll my eyes and give him a filthy look. He grips my chin tightly, his mouth now so close to my ear I can feel the heat of his breath. “Unless you want me to take you across my knee, I suggest you do not sass me.”

My breath hitches in my throat. That is the second time he’s threatened to spank me. I can feel my body heat, and I’m aroused at the thought. Jesus, what the hell is wrong with me?

“Now, please, princess, take a seat.”

I want to defy him, I want to see how far I can push him, but right now, I need to know what is going on with Seamus.

Finn takes a seat next to me, and just as he grabs hold of my hand, Killian walks back into the room with an older gentleman. His hair is grey but there are still signs of dark brown. His eyes look tired, but they are warm and friendly, and he gives me a genuine smile.

“Doc, this is Cara, Finn’s fiancée. And Cara, this is Doc Higgins.” Killian introduces us, and they both take a seat as Finn pulls my attention back to him.

“Princess, I promised we would warn Seamus, and we called him to do that… well, that and to get answers, but he’s off the grid right now…”

“Wait… what do you mean, ‘off the grid’? Where can he be? Oh God, what if something has happened to him?”

“Princess, what did I say about losing it?” I swallow when I see how serious he really is about putting me across his knee.

“While we can’t be certain until we hear from him, we think he’s fine. Your Da is looking for him.”

“Oh God, Finn, no, you didn’t talk to my Da… please tell me you didn’t tell him I’m here? Oh God…”

“For fuck’s sake, princess, take a fucking breath and let me finish.” For a moment, I think he’s really angry, but then I see the look in his eyes, and all I see is concern for me.

“I’m sorry.”

He places a kiss on my temple. “We told your Da nothing. I asked where Seamus was, then I asked where you were. He doesn’t know you’re here. The last he heard you were in Spain; he has men over there looking for you. He thinks Seamus might be looking for you over there, but we know he can’t be as he knows you’re here.

“We are trying to track Seamus now, and I don’t want you to worry until I tell you to worry, do you understand?”

I give him a firm nod, not sure if he’s finished, and not really wanting to anger him.

“I want the doc to give you a quick check over, then we need to talk. We can’t get the answers from Seamus right now, so you’re going to tell us everything.”

“But I don’t know everything.”

“I just need you to tell us everything you do know, okay?”

“Okay.”

He gets up from the sofa and moves off to the side to let the doc check me over, while Killian leaves the room to give me some privacy.

Thirty minutes later and I’m sitting at the island in the kitchen. It’s a warm May afternoon, but I’m drinking a hot chocolate, made for me by Killian. He’s at the stove, making some sort of pasta, while Finn sits next to me, his hand firmly locked on my thigh.

The doctor had a handheld Doppler with him, and Finn’s face lit up so brightly when he heard the baby’s heartbeat, and he’s been stuck to me like glue since.

“Somebody missing a brother?”

None of us heard the door go, but we all turn to see Connor striding toward the kitchen, and right behind him is my brother. A cry lodges in my throat as I jump from my seat and race to him.
