I laugh, grabbing my stuff as I head for the showers. I turn back when he calls out, “Hey… I love you, kid, you know that, right? You’re one of us.”
I give him a short nod and a small smile before hitting the shower.
Forty minutes later, Kill and I are heading through my front door, discussing changes to Rory’s space. Kill heads to the kitchen, and as I’m placing my keys on the table and bag on the floor, he calls out, “Shit, Finn… Cara…”
I look over at him and see him rushing into the kitchen. I start to follow him, and the moment I see her in a crumped heap on the kitchen floor, I race past him, sliding on my knees when I reach her.
She’s as white as sheet, her body shaking. “Princess, talk to me. What happened? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?”
Killian kneels down next to us, handing me a glass of water for her. I place the glass on her lips, and my other hand on the back of her neck, tipping her head back, encouraging her to take a drink. She tries to pull away from me, but I tighten my hold on her as I hand the glass of water back to Kill. At least I know she’s reactive.
“Come on, princess, let’s get you off this floor.” I place my hand under her legs, and the other around her back, scooping her up. I glance at Kill, noticing he’s on the phone, and I carry her through to the sitting room.
I sit on the sofa, placing her on my lap, tucking her into me. I have no idea what the fuck is wrong.
“Princess, please talk to me, you’re scaring me.” I look down at her, and she’s looking up at me with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry… I… Erm…”
“Hey, take a minute and breathe, have some water… you’re safe.” Kill sits next to us and hands me the glass.
She takes a few small sips and a couple of deep breaths. Handing the glass back to Kill, I scoot back on the sofa, settling in to make sure she’s comfortable.
I let her get her breathing back to a normal rhythm, my hand running up and down her arm, gently soothing her.
I pull her to me and kiss the top of her head, and the moment I do, I feel her body relax and she finally settles.
“I have our doc coming, just to check you over. Do you feel like telling us what happened?” She glances at Kill, giving him a nod.
“I got a call from…” She nervously looks at Killian, then up at me.
“It’s okay, princess. Whatever it is, we’ll figure it out.”
“It was José… he said that I couldn’t run from him, that he would find me. He said he would kill Seamus and my Da… and he said that he’d make me watch before cutting the baby out of me…” She starts to sob.
I look over at Kill. I can see the anger dancing in his eyes. He shakes his head, pulling out his phone as he heads into the kitchen. I know he’s calling our brothers, letting them know what’s going on.
“We’ll warn Seamus. But you’re safe here, princess. I promise you. Nobody will touch you or our baby.” I pull her to me tighter, my blood boiling. The rage I feel is on a level I’ve never experienced before. No fucker threatens my family and lives to tell the tale about it.
Chapter 11
I lay in Finn’s lap, his arms wrapped tightly around me. I finally felt safe––feel like I can breathe again.
Hearing José threaten my brother and my father was scary, but when he threatened to cut my baby from me, I lost it. I know Seamus said I was safe, but how can Finn protect me when he doesn’t know what he’s protecting me from?
I steal a glance up at him, knowing that he isn’t looking at me. Him and Killian seem to be having some sort of silent communication.
I should tell him what I know. I should tell him what I overheard… but how can I? What if I tell him and he casts me out? What if he doesn’t want to deal with the drama?
I can feel myself starting to panic again, and I start to shake when his arms pull me in tighter. “Shh, princess, you’re safe.”
“Finn…”
“Yeah, princess?”
“Did anyone call Seamus?”
He gives me a small smile and glances over at Killian, not confirming or denying he spoke to Seamus. I try to sit up, but his grip is like a vice. “Need you to stay calm, princess, but we need to tell you something.”
