"Then why are you here saving me?"

"They can't find her, and I need answers. If I could run away with her and know that it would save her, I would have, but I think they would hunt her down until the job is done. There's also the fact that I don't think she could say goodbye to her family forever." He opens his eyes and nods his head in agreement. "Who is Ed?"

His eyes widen, and he takes in a deep breath. "I fucking knew it. Ed is my uncle."

Suddenly, he throws himself backward in the chair, and I watch as he jiggles each spindle of the wooden chair free to slip the knots. He must have been working on loosening the spindles the entire time he's been down here. That, or until he found out Gigi’s life was on the line, he didn't have a real reason to escape.

"Do you have eyes on the house?"

"Yes, Carson hasn't left the house since you've been locked up here, and there isn't any staff here."

"Where are you?"

"I'm down the street in a car."

He nods as he works to untie the knots around his ankles. "Can you tell me where she is now?"

Without pause, I pull up the camera feed and flick through the rooms I have access to. "The brunette is leaving. She's in the great room."

"Great. Pick me up in ten minutes." He stands up, cracks his neck, and goes to exit the room.

Following, I say, "What are you planning to do?"

He looks down at the ball and asks, "What would you do?"Shit.

"August, listen, I know you want revenge but don't do something stupid. Get out of the house, and we'll figure it out."

"Fuck that, Mason. They want to kill Gianna, and no one lays a hand on my girl. I can't risk it, Mason."

Punching the steering wheel, I rush out of the car toward the estate.

Headingupstairs,Itakethe steps two at a time. I basically grew up here, so I know this house like the back of my hand. When I thought Mason and Gianna ran off together, I was fucking devastated. I threw myself a pity party for a few good hours before I realized that if she did run away with him, at least she wasn't near Ethan and Carson.

Ethan tied me up tight as fuck to a wooden chair with spindles, making sure to knot each spindle. It took me the first two days just to try and loosen the knots enough to be able to move my hands and make work at loosening the spindles.

My plan was always to escape, but once I thought Gianna ran off with Mason, I figured I'd draw out my captivity and try to get more information. Carson's show today and Mason's revelations were the final straw. I was done playing weak and helpless.

I've spent years dealing with Carson's fake, social-climbing antics. For the most part, I thought it was all superficial bullshit, but now I know she has a black heart. She'll do anything, pay any price, as long as it gets her ahead. I never thought she had any true loyalty to me, but I didn't realize she had a deep-seated hate.

Never had I thought the day would come when I would kill someone, but I've also never wanted to kill someone more than I do at this moment right now.

Reaching the top of the steps, I slam the basement door open. As I walk through the kitchen, I knock a crystal vase on the island to the floor, shattering it into a million pieces. I want the bitch to hear me coming. Once I reach the living room, she is standing there with a smirk.

"See, I knew you liked my show. Too bad I'm not in the mood for seconds." My eyebrows shoot up in surprise. Is she serious right now?

"Carson, my god, what is wrong with you. I did not just come out of the basement that I've been locked in for a week to have sex with you. I'm here because I'm done dealing with your bullshit. There is no way I'm letting you lay a finger on Gianna."

Rolling her eyes like my words are empty threats, she starts to leisurely walk up the stairs, so I start after her. "Where do you think you're going?" Her pace picks up when she notices that I'm hot on her heels.

"Don't be scared, Carson. I'm only going to do to you what you planned on doing to Gianna." My voice is dripping with condescension. She pauses to see my face. Now she gets it. I hope she sees every ounce of hate, venom, and depravity that I have for her.

"You wanted me like this, Carson. Well, now you got me." I give her a second to take in my words and watch as fear seeps into her eyes before I say, "Run."

I may have been locked in the basement and starved for the past six days, but the amount of adrenaline pumping through my veins now would give any grown man pause if he saw me coming.
