And I never forgot a face, especially not one that I’d beaten to a pulp.

Looking to Mattie for confirmation of my hours, Shan scribbled something else in his binder. Caspian leaned on my counter, gaze darting from my face down to my tits. I couldn’t blame the man. The level of cleavage on display in this dark purple tank top got me great tips. “Don’t you have social engagements?” he asked, his voice a low purr.

“None, whatsoever.”

“I’m sure I could change that.”

Shan cuffed him on the back of the head before I could shoot him down. Stuffy old angels were good for something, apparently. “He will not be doing that. Do you remember anything in particular about any of the men in the binder?”

This was where I wracked my brain for anything that would make their deaths less suspicious. “A lot of them were drunk,” I said slowly, reaching out to circle the ones I remembered being absolutely blasted. “This one started a fight with another patron and had to be kicked out. This one was ranting and raving about how angels were hiding Omegas and deserved to be slaughtered for it.”

Killing him had been sweet. He’d nearly exposed me in front of the entire club. I’d taken my time to shut down his rants and then taken more time to shut down his screams.

“None of the others did anything to stand out.”

Not when I was speaking about anything they did here, anyway.

“Do you remember anyone else hanging around when you saw these men?”

I shrugged. He frowned.

“There was nothing out of the ordinary?” he asked.

Another shrug. “This is a supernatural nightclub. Every day we’re open I see something out of the ordinary. It’s not like I catalogue them, and you haven’t given me dates when these men went missing, got killed, or whatever.”

“Notable events like what we’re asking about are ones you would remember.”

Shan had a faint frown still, while Caspian was looking between the two of us in amusement. I should have known they would be associated with each other. Two Alphas smelling that good in a five minute period wasn’t a coincidence.

“Look, Mattie has incident reports of everything of note, dated. If you’d like to ask me about a specific event, I’d be happy to answer your questions.” My smile was sweet and too wide to be real. “Until then, I have work to do. Do you have any more questions? Loretta looks like she’s getting a little overwhelmed over there.”

Our other bartender, walking in for her shift only moments before, was swamped with a whole troupe of shifters who were hitting on her and demanding service in equal measure. At eight in the evening, the early club crowd was showing up. Groups who wanted one of the limited tables to monopolize for the entire damn night.

The surrounding air was starting to crackle with electricity as she got flustered. Demons made Loretta beyond nervous, and shifters fell under that umbrella. She’d never told me about what happened to make her that wary, but it had to be something more than the general animosity between demons and fae. As a witch I was more human than anything else and had no stake in the conflict. It made me more impartial with serving customers.

“She’ll take out the debit machines again if she gets any worse.” That comment I directed over at Mattie, who’s eyes widened as he cursed.

“Get over there, Freya. You know I can’t afford to deal with that shit again.”

I took the out and darted to the other side of the bar, hearing Mattie apologize to the men behind me. Their eyes were watching me as I gently manhandled Loretta out of the way and leaned over the wood, propping my tits up on my arms. The distraction worked as I meant it to, getting the attention of the entire group of shifters and drawing their focus away from poor Lor. She continued making their drinks, whispering a ‘thank you’ in my ear as I flirted away.

Even without daring to glance over my shoulder I felt a gaze burning into my back until I uncharacteristically reached out to stroke a finger down the arm of one of the shifters. He was a Beta, so the touch didn’t have as great an effect on me as it could have, but it still made me shiver. That was when I heard the telltale sound of hands slapping down on the bar.

A few seconds later I looked back and both the men were gone.

Chapter 5

Freya

“Heypretty,how’syournight going?”

Ignoring the line of patrons waiting for drinks, a vampire Alpha leaned over and trailed a finger down my arm. I jerked away. The Alpha’s scent enveloped me, but the pheromones weren’t as tempting as they usually would be. It was hard for anything else to tempt me when Caspian and Shan were still in the club, their scents somehow overpowering everything in the crush of people. “I serve drinks. I don’t talk about my night. What can I get you?”

“A taste of you would be—”

I didn’t have time to come up with a jab back to that because he didn’t finish his sentence. Caspian appeared right beside him, hand coming around from behind to grip his throat. Tightly. Aggressively. Even though I assumed his profession required violence, he hadn’t seemed capable of it until that very moment. And my pussy was pleased with the possessive show of anger. Dripping with pleasure, in fact.

“I dare you to finish your sentence and find out what happens,” he spoke in the other man’s ear.
