Fear and pain?“Fuck you, asshole,” I ground out.

“No,” Kade growled. “The trials are over, and there are other ways to elevate a heartbeat. I know you feel the need to protect her like I do.”

Locke’s chuckle was dark and unkind. “Getting her to changeisprotecting her.”

“We knew keeping her here would draw attention,” Darian said. “Warrick just wanted to see her for himself.”

Rage burned in Locke’s eyes, and he smiled, a dark, humorless smile. “Fine. You try your way, but if she hasn’t turned in two fucking nights, we’re going to have to put her through hell if it gets her to change. Otherwise, she’s going to have to compete in the Week of Orash as a human and hope she doesn’t get her throat ripped out, or all of us are dead. No one can find out that she’s still human.”

I glared at him, my hatred for the monsters bubbling to the surface. “Bring it. IwishI would turn into monster just so I can get away from your insufferable ass.”

Locke’s gaze fixed on me, his expression hardening. “Two. Fucking. Nights.”

Asher’s mouth quirked into a lopsided smile, his violet eyes glowing. “We should get to work, then.”

Kade scowled, but he didn’t protest.

“Here, Raine my dear, you need this more than I do,” Darian said, placing a goblet of wine into my hands.

Locke’s grin turned wolfish, and he stepped in front of me, leaning down. “You’d better hope you change quickly, beautiful, because once the two nights are up, you’re mine.”

Mine.I watched his lips as he said the word, and my inner muscles clenched. His to toy with. To torture.Well, I was fucking ready. Ready to become a monster and compete in the damn fights. It was my best chance of finding Cara.

“Back the hell up, Locke,” Kade growled, folding his arms in front of his chest.

But I just stepped closer to Locke, getting right in his face. Smiling sweetly, I bared my teeth. “I look forward to it, asshole.”
