Because with what the sheriff just mentioned? I’m not sure my past will stay in the past and confrontation is coming to be able to put the past to rest once and for all.

CHAPTER FOUR

– PERRY –

“No lockdown. I’m serious, Prez. You can’t lock me up inside the clubhouse,” Ramona snaps at her president.

Hudsyn crosses her arms in front of her chest. “It’s non-negotiable. You heard the sheriff, there might be a fair chance Henrick’s wife will track you down. We can’t risk putting you or anyone else in danger. She knows who you are and how Henrick was renovating a room here in this clubhouse so she has the address. Think, dammit.”

“I am thinking.” Ramona points in my direction. “I’m moving in with Perry. We agreed before the sheriff came by and I think it’s a good solution because Perry’s ranch isn’t on her radar.”

You can hear a pin drop in the clubhouse when she voices her suggestion and I can’t help the grin from sliding across my face. Fucked-up circumstances aside, I’m actually looking forward to taking Ramona up on her suggestion for therapeutic sex.

Ever since I agreed my mind and body fell in sync and it’s as if a weight has been lifted off my chest. And I have to agree with Ramona that it’s a good solution for her to move in with me, like we agreed to in the first place but it’s also a safe option now.

I take a step forward and come to a stop next to Ramona. “If it makes all of you more comfortable, Ivar and Medley can stay with us. They can take the spare room for the next couple of days or for however long it will take for this to blow over.”

“See?” Ramona quips. “We have backup. Come on, Prez. Compensate. You should be happy I spent the night with Perry instead of being locked up in my panic room for months on end. I’m ready for this change and I’m not going to let Henrick’s bitch ruin it for me now that I finally have my lady-balls back to pick up my damn life.”

“Fuck,” Hudsyn grumbles and slides her fingers through her hair. “Fine. How can I disagree when you put it like that?”

“I’ll pack a bag,” Medley quips and Ivar falls in step behind her as she leaves the room.

“You wanted to take Dover with you?” Sonnet asks. Ramona nods and Sonnet tells her, “I’ll put him in the trailer.”

“I’ll help,” I offer but she shakes her head. “No worries, I got this.”

Ramona grabs my hand and pulls me toward the back of the clubhouse. “You’re with me. I have to grab a few things from my cabin and since they’re all freaking out, I’d rather have you tagging along.”

“You know it’s not an idle threat, right?” I ask.

She shoots me a fierce glare. “I know. But I’ve flipped the switch to move forward with my life and if I’m letting go of my past, I can’t start to look over my shoulder at every turn. What Henrick did to me was done while I was sleeping and I had no knowledge or say in any of it. This is my fucking life and I’m not going to let anything else control me while I have my eyes wide open.”

I’m about to tell her she’s right but she holds up her finger.

“I wasn’t done talking. Because I want you to know I’m not an idiot and that’s why I offered my prez the twist of staying with you instead of the clubhouse. Mainly because Alma doesn’t know about you and this gives us an advantage. Plus, I have you and now we also have two more who will be inside your house. Let her come and we will deal with it. If not? Great, I’m sure Atticus will arrest her ass soon enough. But in the meantime? Therapeutic sex.”

My head falls back and laughter rips out.

It’s cut short when she smacks my belly. “Stop laughing. I’m serious. Or have you changed your mind?”

Without thinking I reach for her and pull her flush against my body. My mouth covers hers and the gasp of surprise allows me to swoop my tongue right between her lips and stroke against hers. Both of us moan simultaneously. The feel of her fists buried into the fabric of my shirt feels amazing as she pulls me closer.

There’s no hesitation and she sinks tighter against me. By now she must be feeling my hard on grinding against her belly and yet she still doesn’t stop the kiss that’s going from sensual to raw and needy.

I’m seconds away from ripping her jeans off and burying myself balls deep inside her but she suddenly breaks the kiss and steps away. She places her forehead on my chest and is panting as hard as I am.

“Damn,” she mutters. “My heart is running on overdrive and I feel like I’m about to have a meltdown if you don’t take me right here, right now.” She mutters a few curses, pulls back and stares up at me. “Am I obsessing? Are we going too fast? Is this normal? Shit. I’m ruining the moment, aren’t I?”

She steps away and starts to pace. “This was a bad idea. We shouldn’t. I don’t know if I can. Is it hot in here or what?”

I step into her space to block her next stride.

Cupping her face, I connect our gaze and tell her, “I never intended to get close with a woman again but you…you draw me in with your honest eyes, silky hair, and gorgeous strong-willed mind. Push away the insecurity overwhelming you because all I’m seeing is a woman filled with determination who grabs hold with both hands to get back into the swing of life and flashes everything else her middle finger. There’s no going too fast or going all in: there’s only the ride you’re taking that fits the pace and I’m right there with you.”

“Okay,” she whispers.

“Okay,” I echo. “Now, let’s pack a bag or two and head back to the horses.”
