I help her pack and we’re loading the bags into the truck a half hour later. Ivar and Medley stroll out of the clubhouse and straddle their bikes.

Ramona shoots me a wicked grin. “I’m going to take my bike along as well. See you in a bit.”

I can only stare to take in the way she throws her leg over the bike, puts on the helmet and fires the thing up. My throat is dry and my dick is practically cheering her on behind the damn zipper. This woman oozes sex if you ask me.

She melted into my hands until she started to doubt our connection. The way we practically devoured one another? It’s a damn shame she was feeling overwhelmed, and she shouldn’t be. Something we will definitely work on because I want her to be mine completely; no other man will ever lay a hand on her.

“You coming or are you going to soil the dirt underneath your boots with all that drool?” Sonnet snickers.

I give a shake of my head to clear the lust and jump into the truck. Sonnet drives us to my ranch and once we get there Ramona, Ivar, and Medley have already parked their bikes and are standing close to one another. It seems they are wrapped into a discussion Ramona isn’t liking one bit by the look on her face. I get out of the truck as soon as Sonnet hits the breaks.

“Everything okay?” I question.

“Fine,” Ramona snaps and stalks right by me to head for the trailer.

“Anything you want to tell me?” I throw the question at Ivar.

I’ve known the man for a large part of my life but if he thinks about interfering when it comes to Ramona, he’s got another thing coming.

“I’m just trying to look out for the both of you,” he carefully states.

I throw my thumb over my shoulder. “Did her face show her appreciation? Because from where I was standing it looked like you don’t support her decisions but are meddling in something you should leave the fuck up to her.”

“Touchy, touchy,” Medley mutters. “Ivar only wanted to protect Ramona. We noticed the way she looks at you and we saw you two sleeping together while you were staying with the horses. We just wanted to make sure she’s not jumping into something only to get hurt.”

“No one is going to hurt her ever again.I’mgoing to make sure of it. So, this is the only warning you’ll get. Leave us be,” I snap and glare at the both of them.

Ivar throws his hands up, a grin slides across his face. “Good to hear, my friend. It’s all I needed to know.”

Medley is giving me a look as if she’s staring at a box filled with puppies or something. I shake my head and walk backwards, muttering, “Whatever,” and turn to help Ramona take Dover into the stables.

“I almost forgot,” I tell her. “I have a stallion arriving tomorrow morning. I’ve imported him from the Netherlands.”

“You mentioned it in one of your texts. He’s four years old, right? He’s coming out of quarantine today?”

I open one of the stalls and Ramona guides Dover inside.

“Yeah. I managed to get a fairly good deal because there were a few other buyers in the US who wanted to import a horse bred by him so the cost came down if the horses traveled together. It also brought me into contact with a man who had a mare for sale. I visited him two weeks ago and brought a vet to the meeting. The mare is in great condition, you’ll see her next week when he brings her. He had another magnificent one with a bloodline so fucking perfect for my stallion but he didn’t want to sell her. Anyway, the mare coming next week is a sight to behold.”

She gives me a smile that warms her eyes. “You’re off to a great start.”

My mind travels to yesterday morning when the mare died. The one that was supposed to be the start of the bloodline I have in mind for the future.

“Hey.” She reaches out and squeezes my forearm. “Focus on the positive. You still have Lieke, a stallion on the way here now, and another mare arriving next week. Sounds to me like the future is bright and your dream is almost at your doorstep.”

“You’re right.” I lean in and brush my lips against hers. “The future is looking bright. I might be adding more dreams now that one is almost within reach.”

But this time I’m not thinking about dreaming of succeeding with breeding horses. I’m thinking about the woman standing in front of me. One who shares the same mindset when it comes to breeding and training horses. Something Molly hated whenever I brought up the subject of breeding horses on a ranch of our own one day. She only wanted a military career and never saw past it.

It’s funny how you can think you connect with a person while suddenly realize you’re complete strangers instead. And then there’s Ramona. We’ve been shooting words through a phone for months and yet it feels as if we’ve known one another for a lifetime. We’re on the same wavelength, path, soul-deep connection, whatever it is; we fucking click.

“Are we grilling steaks to celebrate you two finding one another and becoming mushy?” Ivar says way too fucking cheerful.

“I fucking hate the dude at times like this,” I snap.

Ramona chuckles and pushes against my chest before she covers her mouth with her hand to cover up her words as she says, “You really shouldn’t say such things about your friend. Even if you know he can’t hear you due to his hearing loss.”

I shoot her a smirk and slide my arm around her waist to pull her close. “And why are you covering your mouth then, huh?”
