“We will be there soon,” Jonan said, worried, when he realized that she had been quiet for a while.

“I have no worries,” Nora replied. “I trust you.”

Nora smiled as she felt him relax against her.

When she heard crickets chirping, she knew they were getting close to the loch. She sat up excitedly as he guided the horse to a safe location for them to explore.

Finally, Jonan assisted her down before descending himself.

“Is there any time that the loch doesn’t look glorious?” she asked him in awe of its beauty.

“When it rains,” Jonan replied with a smile. “Once, when I was a young boy and angry with me father, I escaped to the loch. Then it began to rain.”

“That sounds rather awful.”

“It was. The rain was heavy and the loch began to overflow. I would have been swept away but for me father arriving at the perfect time. He had ken where I would be and that I would not return despite the darkening clouds.”

Nora could not help the pang of jealousy she felt at his words.

“You were a lucky child,” she said, almost wistfully.

Jonan simply nodded. “I believed I thanked ye for yer input in the clan.”

“Yes,” she said softly, “but you did not need to.”

It was only after a few days as a wife that she realized the importance of her presence at the keep. Leah was a happy, kind, and sweet child in need of a mother. Jonan was Laird McKay, which meant he didn't have much time for himself, let alone cleaning up the keep. Nora knew she'd have to help him with other things like this.

He had proven earlier that evening that she could do whatever she wanted and that he would support her. He would gather people if she needed assistance or anything else, and because theyloved him, they readily loved her too. It was more love than she had felt in her entire life.

Nora almost slipped, and she collided with Jonan's tall and hard body but he did not even flinch. It was at times like these that she knewshe had never met anyone as strong as him.

“Steady.” His voice came in her ear. “I have ye.”

Nora raised her eyes to her husband's dark face; she couldn't see much but his eyes against the moonlight and stars. Hewas right about how beautiful the night was, but he still shielded her from it.

“I thought I felt something…” she mumbled to him. She looked around but realized that it might have just been the cool breeze against her skirts.

“‘Tis quite common. Ye should be careful, Amelia,” he said to her.

Careful about what? She wanted to ask but he turned around and climbed over a large rock.

“Yes,” Nora said before attempting to climb the rock. Suddenly, she tripped over.

She found herself in his arms once more. His embrace was brief, but she feltthe warmth of his body against hers.

Jonan lowered her back and stepped aside so she could see the loch. They stood next to each other, admiring the gorgeous view. The moonlight, the stars, spread across its surface. But there were moments when she'd rather look at him.

No mad had ever left an impression on her before meeting him . His body was statuesque and hishair beautiful. She liked how he'd tied it back — it actually made her smile because she'd done something similar. It would appear they both wanted to impress one another.

She wondered if he had noticed her staring at him. She knew she should stop herself because she'd beenfighting the strong desire to run her hands over his chest, to feel the hardness and warmth of him under her fingers.

“Care for a swim?” he asked her suddenly.

Nora turned to him with wide eyes. “A swim? But… I’m not dressed for—”

“Your skin is enough.” he said with a playful look. He was daring her, she knew, but she wouldn’t give in.

“I think I’ll watch you.”
