The men around her laughed, and she felt someone picking her up, jerking her towards him. She grimaced when the scarred man cackled in her ear, rubbing his body against hers. “Why do ye care?” the scarred man behind her asked. Blair gagged as she felt his lips against her jaw. He inhaled deeply, his hands tightening on her hips. “We found her first.”

“She’s not yers.” Aindreas’s eyes narrowed on the men, his hand hovering above his sword.

The men withdrew their knives and swords, pointing them at Aindreas. “I wouldn’t do that if I were ye,” said the redhead while waving his sword in front of him. “Ye will only get hurt.”

Aindreas smirked, withdrawing his sword and moving into a fighting stance. “Aye, someone will get hurt, but it won't be me.”

Blair watched with wide eyes as the bandits attacked. The twins stood on either side of him, taking turns stabbing their swords towards Aindreas, but he dodged their strikes, moving gracefully as if he were a wildcat and not a man. The shorter twin swiped his sword once more, but Aindreas dodged again before slamming his hilt against his face. He stumbled backward while the taller twin attacked. Aindreas blocked his attack. The swords clanged, the sounds echoing around them.

Blair looked around, wondering why no one had left their homes or the pub to provide the laird’s son with aid. The scarred man tightened his grip, and she gasped.

“Don’t think he will help ye,” the man whispered in her ear. “He’s but one man, and we are four.”

Blair shivered, her stomach churning as she watched Aindreas jump. In midair, he kicked the taller twin in the face, sending him flying past Blair. The man thudded to the ground, his head lulling from one side to the other.

“Will ye stop fooling around?” the scarred man shouted, stomping his foot in irritation.

Blair smiled, feeling hope brim within her as she watched Aindreas spin on one foot, striking the redhead in the face with his boot, knocking him against the wall. He slid to the ground, groaning while rubbing his head.

“Get up!” the scarred man shouted, but the redhead shook his head before slowly crawling away.

Aindreas smirked, swiping his sword in front of him as the shorter twin circled around him.

The twin smirked, shifting his weight from foot to foot. “Don’t think for one second ye can get past me ye—“

Aindreas pounced, and Blair watched in awe as the twin held his ground, shielding his face with his hand and sword. Her heart slammed in her throat as she watched Aindreas kick him in the face. The twin didn’t move, only blinked while blood dripped from his nose. He touched it lightly, bringing his hand up to his widening eyes.

“Oh,” he breathed before falling to the ground. He crawled past the scarred man, groaning while dripping blood onto the cobblestones.

Aindreas pointed his sword at the scarred thug holding Blair. “I suppose yer next.”

The man released Blair, shoving her towards Aindreas before turning on his heel. He squealed like a little pig while he ran far away, leaving his friends behind while they slowly dragged their bodies out of the alley.

Aindreas sheathed his sword and grabbed Blair by her shoulders, gazing down at her. His eyes searched her person while he stroked her hair.

“Are ye hurt anywhere?”

Blair’s knees ached from when she fell. She could already feel the bruises forming from where the thug held her, but she found herself shaking her head. “I’m fine, now,” she whispered, unable to take her gaze off Aindreas. “Thank ye for saving me.”

Aindreas frowned, taking her hands in his and looking them over. His thumb rubbed the bruise forming on her wrist. “I’m so sorry, Blair,” he whispered, his voice cracking on the words. “I’m so sorry for everything. I never meant for this to happen.”

Blair smiled, blinking away the tears she felt forming. She pulled her hand away from his and stroked his cheek. Her breath hitched as he leaned into her touch. “Ye came back for me,” she whispered while she continued caressing him, finding herself unable to stop.

He pulled her closer to him, his nose nuzzling hers. “I will always come back for ye, Blair,” he whispered against her lips. “I will never let any harm come yer way. Never.”

Blair’s face flushed with heat, and she realized she was very close to Aindreas, too close. She tried to pull herself away, knowing she would do something foolish if she didn’t move now, but her body wouldn’t listen to her. She found herself leaning in, wanting more of his warmth.

“Ye promise?” she whispered, feeling his lips nearly upon her.

“I would lay down my life for ye, Blair.”

Before Blair could register his words, she felt his lips upon hers, his tongue slipping against her. Her eyes fluttered closed, and she wrapped her arms around him, moaning as his tongue slipped inside to caress the fires burning within her.

“Blair,” Aindreas murmured against her lips, and she gasped, feeling him press her against the wall. He deepened the kiss, his hands stroking through her hair. She moaned, unable to help herself as his tongue licked and prodded hers. Her insides felt as if they were boiling while his hand tugged at her skirts. His fingers skimmed against her thigh, and she shivered, feeling warmth pit in the middle of her belly.

She lifted a leg, wanting him closer to her, and she gasped when she felt his hand grabbing it, holding it against his hip while he ground against her. Her breath hitched, feeling something hard pressing against her middle. Her face flushed as she moved against him. He moaned low and deep, making her whole body tingle in response. Her hands slid up his front, caressing his jaw, his hair before settling on his shoulders. Aindreas’s lips slid from hers. He kissed her jaw, traveling down her neck. His teeth grazed her nape, and she gasped, clutching onto him, never wanting to let go.

“Aindreas,” she whimpered while tilting her head to the side.
