Aindreas pressed his hands against her shoulders, taking a step away from her. He inhaled deeply while he stared at her. His lips were swollen from their kiss, and all Blair wanted was to feel them upon her once more.

She reached for him, but Aindreas quickly shook his head. “Not here,” he whispered harshly, taking her hand and tugging her behind him, towards his horse waiting on the other side of the alley.

Blair was confused. She didn’t know what was going on, why he had kissed her, why he had pulled away. “Aindreas,” she called softly, her fingers lacing with his. “Are ye alright? Is everything—“

“Nae, I am not alright,” Aindreas said while whirling around.

He pulled her close to him, and suddenly, his lips were upon her once more, kissing her harshly. She moaned as his tongue swirled around hers, but the kiss was over as soon as it had begun. He nuzzled her nose with his. His forehead pressed against hers.

“I don’t think I will ever be fine,” he whispered. “I can’t get ye out of my head. All my thoughts are preoccupied with ye. And the thing is,” he said, his voice cracking on the words, “I don’t think I ever want to be rid of ye, Blair.”

Blair nodded, her hand caressing his jaw. “Aye,” she whispered, allowing him to tug her back towards the horse. She didn’t say another word as he lifted her onto his mount, watching him jump up swiftly behind her. His hands wrapped around her before taking the reins, and she leaned into him, feeling his warmth all around her and the joy brimming within her.
