"Fuck!" he yelled, smacking the garment back down and frantically running his hands over his legs and torso. "Tzidal, this thing is getting angrier!" he yelled at the Omega.

"Can you move?" she asked me, her voice shaking with fear as her hands moved in a blur over the bark. Her body jerked as she dodged another winding branch.

I was able to finally pull one of my arms free, reaching it over my head. I kicked out hard and stretched my hand out to grab anything within reach. The Omega jumped up and took hold of my hand. She planted her feet then heaved, a small grunt leaving her lips. I pushed against any surface my feet could find, desperate to work my way free.

The tree let out a loud snap as it stopped moving toward the pale boy, then immediately reversed direction, tightening around me again.

"Fuck!" I yelled, over the deep, hollow groan that vibrated out of the bark around me.

I jerked and squirmed as the pale boy rushed over to help pull on my arm. I kicked out once more as hard as I could, launching myself forward and on top of the stumbling Omega. I looked down at her big, brown eyes and took a deep, shuddering breath. Her sweet, floral scent rushed through my body, shocking my senses. My wolf let out a nervous growl as the tree cracked once again behind me.

"Move it!" the pale boy screamed.

I jumped, snatching the Omega up with me, and ran. The pale boy startled and scurried after us, yelling out in our wake. I rushed through the thicket of trees, dodging branches and rocks, the Omega firmly in my hold. She tightened her grip around my neck and pushed her face into my chest.

My wolf roared with a possessive edge as my senses went into overdrive. I was suddenly keenly aware of every sound and shift of the wind around me as I struggled to remain human, my wolf lusting to break free.

I spotted a clearing ahead and picked up my pace, not slowing until I reached it. Once we were on safe ground, I stopped and took several long, deep breaths. The pale boy screamed from inside the tree line, his blonde hair catching the sun and bouncing toward us.

"You can put me down," the Omega said firmly.

I immediately placed her on her feet. She looked flushed and a little frightened despite her stern expression. She had two healed claw marks on one arm and purple burns that twisted around the other.

"You've seen some of those creatures I warned you about," I said, looking pointedly at her old wounds.

She nodded and ran her fingertips over her marked skin, stepping away from me. "Yeah, but I didn't need anyone to saveme."

My smile dimmed, and I nodded, my pride taking a bit of a blow.

"What the fuck?" the pale boy yelled as he finally reached us. "That was a fantastic'thank you for saving me’!"he screamed at me. “You fucking abandoned me with murder trees!"

"I'm sorry," I said. "I saw an Omega in danger, and my instincts kicked in."

"Yeah, well, there was a siren in danger too, asshole. Next time maybe your instincts could be a little more considerate of everyone that helped save your ungrateful ass."

"I am grateful." I struggled to remain calm, hating the pale boy's tone. It was aggressive and demanding, and I wanted to smack his mouth. "Thank you both for helping me."

"Fuck you," the pale boy sneered. "I have to eat something," he said, turning to the Omega. "And if I spend one more minute with this one," he jabbed a finger into my chest, forcing me to swallow a growl, "I'll end up cuttinghimopen."

The pale boy turned on his heel and stalked off into the woods.

"Don't mind him," the Omega said. "He's just hungry."

"Seonjoon." I bowed my head. "But everyone calls me Joon."

"Tzidal," the Omega responded. "So, are these trees one of the vicious creatures you warned would want to eatmeas a snack?" she smirked, looking a little more relaxed. Her eyes were hard, but her pink lips pulled up in one corner, making her look soft and sweet, despite her shitty comment.

"Enchanted trees are much more dangerous than they are given credit."

She snorted. "Clearly."

The Edge of The Forest

Tzidal

Joon walkedwith us through the rest of the Shadow Forest. He claimed it was to help protect us, but Lex was quick to point out that we had, in fact, saved him.

The siren clicked his tongue, savoring the look on Joon's face as he told the Alpha that he needed us more than we needed him. Joon puffed his chest out in annoyance, obviously not caring for Lex's snarky comments, but he didn't say anything. The Alpha simply shifted his glare into the distance and huffed. But he needed the reminder.
