“It’s okay, puppy,” Lex whispered in Tzidal’s ear. “We have him.”

I opened the door again, seeing the two Alphas circle each other. Byriel looked weak, his gestures slow, and his muscles reacting half a second after each of Hida’s movements. He was an easy target and would probably go down without much effort.

Suddenly, Byriel roared and launched himself at Hida. There was a brief moment where he had the upper hand, but Hida quickly spun them and poised himself to rip Byriel’s throat out. I reacted without thinking, launching myself out the door and sprinting across the room. I slammed into Hida with all my might, forcing him to the ground with a grunt.

I drew my fist back and punched the stunned Alpha repeatedly in the face. Hida stuttered, swinging his arms wildly, completely caught off guard.

"Guh..guh..guards!" Hida finally managed to get out between fierce blows.

A rush of uniformed Alphas ran into the room. I glanced up quickly and tried to shift. My bones were desperate to glide and move, but they held firmly in place. My wolf snarled within me, enraged at being denied the taste of blood.

Two guards slammed into me, ripping me from Hida and forcing me to my knees. I struggled and jerked but they shoved me down, keeping me in place.

“Byriel!” Hida roared, pointing at the weak Alpha. “He’s a traitor! Hold him down!” The guards hesitated, glancing at one another. “It’s an order from the King himself! Hold him down!”

An unsure guard stepped forward and grabbed Byriel’s shoulder, gently holding him in place. Byriel moved easily for him, his breath labored and heavy. He was going to be no help in this fight. I’d have to do this on my own. I just hoped I didn’t lose Hida in the process. It would break Tzidal’s heart, and I had every intention of keeping my promise.

Hida got to his feet and smoothed down the front of his shirt. "Who the fuck are you?" he demanded, rounding on me.

I ignored him scanning the room. There were seven guards in total, no clear weapons in sight, and only two exits that I knew of, the main doors and the passageway. I wondered if more guards were waiting in the halls. Were these the only ones that had heard Hida call out, or was the whole castle aware of our presence, making escape impossible?

"Wolf!" Hida yelled, trying to get my attention.

My eyes snapped to him, and he glared. Hida was just as I had remembered, dark, ugly eyes and the faint outline of a sneer constantly on his lips.

One of the guards shook my shoulder and growled low in his throat. "Answer Commander Hida when he speaks to you!" The guard sounded young as if he wanted to convey more strength than he actually possessed.

I looked over the Alphas around me, realizing how young they all were. They appeared to have presented in the last year, maybe two. It was odd the King would allow pups to watch over him and his people.

"Who are you?" Hida demanded.

"I’m the last face you’ll ever see," I smirked as one of the guards shoved on my back to force me lower.

Hida laughed long and hard. "I doubt that. But I do enjoy a challenge."

"Byna said the same thing before I ripped her throat out,” I mocked, smiling at the fucker.

Hida’s eyes went wide with shock and rage. He snarled loudly, the sound echoing off the walls.

I braced myself to attack when Lex’s screams caught my attention. The side door burst open, and a guard walked out, holding Tzidal and Lex by their hair. Hida glanced at the pair briefly before doing a double-take and fully turning his attention to them.

"The Omega from the Madra Village?" he asked with a pleased scoff-of-a-sound. A wide grin split his face, and he turned to me. "What is this?" Hida walked closer to Tzidal, keeping his eyes on me, mocking me with his leer.

It was clear he was hoping to elicit a reaction to see if the Omega held any value to me. I tried so damn hard to keep my face blank, but the closer he got to her, the more unhinged I became. My wolf slammed and pushed against my boundaries, trying with everything he had to slip forward, but he was held firmly in place within me. It was agony for both of us.

"Is she yours now?" Hida asked, brushing his fingertips over the side of Tzidal’s face. She glared at him, her eyes filled with a blazing rage and glassy with tears.

"Are you trying to avenge her mate’s death for her?" he mocked, watching every twitch and spasm in my face. "Did she tell you to find me and kill me?" He laughed, scrunching up his nose as if this were the most wonderful gift anyone had ever given him.

My muscles jerked briefly, urging me to lash out. But before I could move, Hida gripped Tzidal’s face hard, making her whimper. He turned, catching my eye, and laughed.

I froze, trying to think through my options. I struggled slightly against the guard’s hold on my shoulders, testing their grip. My heart was pounding fiercely, and I could feel my control slipping. My body yearned to bathe in the blood of every wolf that dared to touch my Tzidal.

My eyes met hers, her soft features conveying so much patience and control, and she mouthed two words. Only two.

It’s okay.

I nodded in return. The moment would present itself. I just needed to be patient. I needed to trust my Omega.
