"Byriel!" Tzidal yelled as she hurried down the hillside, wet hair flying wildly behind her.

The urge to snatch the male omega up and run pulsed hard within me, but I kept myself in place, fighting against every instinct.

I raised my hand to wave Tzidal over, then curled into myself as a swift blow hit me right in the balls. The omega shimmied out from beneath me, racing off while I grunted and heaved onto the forest floor. Sharp pain shot from my groin and settled deep in my gut, blurring my vision.

Looking up, I tried like hell to focus on the fleeing omega. Joon caught up to him and wrapped his arms firmly around the creature, bringing him to a stop.

Lex walked quickly down the hill, his eyes fixed on me, laughing long and hard. "Are you," he spoke between loud burst of laughter, "are you okay?" I glared at him as he continued to cackle at my expense.

Tzidal knelt next to me, placing a careful hand on my shoulder. "Are you seriously injured or just your pride?" she smiled sweetly.

I pushed myself off the forest floor, then zeroed in on the little shit struggling in Joon's arms.

"Our shadow?" I asked, my voice strained. Swallowing hard, I tried to force away the dull ache in my balls and the pulse of nausea in my throat. My wolf whimpered and curled into himself, too wounded to help me walk it off.

"I think so," Joon grunted, heaving the flailing boy toward us. "Stop!" he ordered, pushing his alpha deep into the demand, and the omega went limp.

My wolf inched forward at the display, and an urge to rip him from Joon's arms surged within me. I crossed my arms to hold myself back.

"Woah," Lex said, eyeing the boy's slack body. "Why doesn't that happen to you?" he asked Tzidal.

"Young omegas struggle to defy alphas. It takes a lot of practice," she said, moving to Joon's side and helping him situate the boy on the ground. "And even then, some omegas never master the ability."

The omega eyed Tzidal as she ran a hand through his hair and down his arm. He seemed to relax at the gesture, and she leaned in, her voice soft and motherly. "How old are you, pup?"

"I'm of age," he whispered, wide eyes darting widely between me, Joon, and Lex. The need to comfort and scent him burned my flesh from the inside out. "I'm twenty," he said to Tzidal. "Just this last spring."

"Well, that's old enough to push back a bit on an alpha's orders when in danger," she smiled sweetly. "Are you really of age?"

The omega eyed Joon and me carefully before leaning into Tzidal's hair and whispering. Her mouth fell open as he spoke, and her eyes widened. When he finished speaking, he stayed pressed to her side, continuing to move his hypnotizing eyes between the three of us.

"What's your name?" she asked.

He whispered again.

Tzidal smiled and ran a hand through his dark, silky hair, tucking it behind his ear. "This is Blue," she said, "and he has never met an alpha before."

The Hillside

Tzidal

Blue's chinquivered as he pushed his slight body into my side. I hummed softly, trying to calm his wolf. The thick stench of angry alpha was enough to put the most seasoned omega on edge, and Blue, with his lack of exposure to the aggressive wolves, was struggling to breathe properly.

The youngling was tall for an Omega, an inch or two bigger than Lex and just as slender. His scent was also the softest I had ever pulled from someone of our status.

Omegas tended to have strong, perfumed scents, meant to entice mates and make us easier to track should we get lost or kidnapped. It was a gift from the Moon to keep us safe, even if it put us in danger outside our villages. But Blue's wolf smelled so slight and clean. It was unusual and lovely.

Running my fingers over the omega's arm, I looked over his stunning features. His heart-shaped face and soft cheeks made him look very young, and his coloring was unique. While Lex's pale complexion held a shimmering quality, Blue's white skin was velvety and gave off a subtle, light blue sheen—almost as if it were a trick of the light. His deep blue-ish black hair was stark in comparison to his complexion, and I ran my fingers through it, noticing a thick streak of purple that curled slightly next to one ear.

"Where did you come from?" Joon asked the omega. He was still pushing his dominance into every word, which was unnecessary. It made the poor boy shake and stammer as he was forced to answer.

"My, my village," he said softly. Blue's wide eyes shot to me, and I noticed the beautiful colors gently swirl within them. He looked like a living spell—something the witches sat down in the middle of the forest, meant to live among flowers and fairies.

"There's no village out here," Joon barked. Hearing his tone, I gave my mate a stern look. He let out a sharp groan, then cleared his throat. "Is your village close?" he asked in a forcefully kind manner.

"Yes, but…" Blue's eyes darted between the two alphas.
