"But what, sweetie?" I asked, smoothing the fabric of his shoulder down his arms. His clothes were clean and well made and while thin, he was clearly well-fed. This boy was no rogue. He had a proper home, and I wanted to make sure he got back to it safely.

Blue leaned into my ear and whispered. "I can't tell you. We have no alphas there, and the elders would be very cross if I brought them inside the borders."

"What about Lex?" I motioned to the siren. "Can he know?"

Lex stepped forward and knelt next to us. I could feel a spell pushing off him, making my chest feel soft and fuzzy. Blue leaned into Lex's magic and smiled. He sat up with big, curious eyes, his fear forgotten.

Scooting closer, Blue reached for Lex's fluffy, white hair. "You're so pretty," the omega whispered, running the tips of his fingers down the side of Lex's cheek.

"Thank you, little one," Lex beamed.

"What the hell is wrong with omegas?" Byriel said to no one in particular. "Can they not feel the threat within sirens?"

"I'm not a threat to them," Lex said softly, smiling wider as Blue ran his hands over the sleeves of his robes. "Sirens are tasked with cutting out evil from this world. Not good. And omegas are very good. They're nurturing."

Joon snorted and shook his head.

"Are you saying alphas are evil?" Byriel raised his brow.

"Just you," Joon shot, giving him a pointed look.

Tipping his head back, Byriel turned his big body toward Joon, and I instantly jumped up before either one of them could start bickering. I grabbed my mate's hand and pulled him away from everyone.

The second I was sure no one could hear us, I turned to my mate. "We can't just leave him here."

"Agreed," Joon said, keeping an eye on Byriel. Thankfully the other alpha was busy watching Lex and Blue giggle. Lex's spells were like no other and could calm a rogue in a temple fire.

"I want to make sure he makes it home," I said, "and that his parents know he got out of their village."

"There's no village here, Tzidal," Joon said with an edge in his tone.

"Fine. I want to get him home. Wherever that is." I crossed my arms. His pride was clearly still wounded at the omega's ability to almost escape him. Blue's speed was both startling and impressive. Had Byriel not shown up when he did, we would have lost the omega within the trees.

I shook my head, still stunned the youngling was out here. "I can't leave knowing he's just wandering around the forest all by himself. I won't sleep until he's home."

Joon nodded.

"If he doesn't want you and Byriel to know where he lives, Lex and I—"

"No," he snapped, giving me a stern, commanding glare. I swallowed thickly to keep from baring my neck in submission. "I will not let my mate wander through the forest without me to an unknown location. Do not ask again. It will not be happening."

My wolf shivered, and I instinctively reached for his hand, needing to ease his temper. "Why are you so mad?"

He took a step toward me, his expression hard. He held a strand of my still wet hair between his fingers. "I told you not to bathe in that stream." His voice was a deep, dominating growl. It both frightened and aroused me, making me tremble and slick at the same time.

"What do you think?" Byriel asked, suddenly at my side. His deep voice startled me, and I jerked, hating how silent and quick alphas were.

"We're going to take him home," I whispered. Lex and Blue were busy talking softly amongst themselves, but I still didn't want the frightened omega to overhear. He was already so upset.

"I can escort him home," Byriel said. "I'm headed back to Ossory, and he glanced in that direction when he spoke of his village. Even if it's a little out of my way, I don't mind."

"No," Joon shot. I could feel something cautious push through our bond. Byriel had him on edge—or more on edge than he already was. "Tzidal wants to see him home. We'll take him."

"I really don't mind," Byriel said, giving an agreeable shake of his head.

Joon angled his shoulders forward, his expression as tight as his fists.

The unusually sharp look in Byriel's eyes made me take a step back. A not-so-subtle challenge passed between the two alphas, making the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
