Lex had his arms wrapped tight around Tzidal's middle. She struggled in his hold, her arms outstretched as if trying to reach for someone.

I raced to her as fast as my body would allow. I ran past three betas shoving spears into a quickly dying guard, an alpha ripping a farmer's throat out, and I barrelled right into another alpha trying to light a storefront on fire, knocking his torch out of his hand.

Coming to an abrupt stop just in front of my mate, it took her eyes a moment before they adjusted, seeing me clearly.

"Joon!" Relief poured from her, but she didn't move into my arms. Instead, she pointed just behind me. "Blue!" she yelled again. "Help him!"

"No." I shook my head, unable to leave her in the middle of so much violence. I looked at Lex as he continued to hold my omega. She struggled hard even though her strength was nothing to his, but she still tried. My little beast.

"Please, Joon!" she begged, her big eyes filled with fire and fear. "Help him!"

Unable to handle the desperation flowing off my mate, I turned to catch a glance at Blue. He was frantically racing through the village, two big alphas on his heels. The young omega's speed was impressive, giving the Alphas a good chase.

"There's a river east of here," Lex said, pulling my attention. "I can smell it." I nodded quickly at his obvious plan.

"Take Tzidal there." I angled my head down to look into my mate's eyes. "Go with Lex." She opened her mouth to protest, but I cut her off. "I'll get Blue. Then I'll follow the river and find you. Go!"

I didn't wait for her to respond but immediately ran at full speed to where I had just seen the small, blue omega. He was already gone, but he couldn't have gotten far.

Byriel appeared out of nowhere, cutting a quick path through the fighting wolves. He was on the trail of something, and I quickly followed. I prayed it was Blue. If I didn't return to Tzidal with Blue in tow, she'd have my head.

Racing around a storefront, I picked up speed as my eyes fell on a guard looming over an elderly, sobbing beta. I cut straight to him, keeping Byriel in my periphery. Grabbing a splintered shovel off the ground, I leapt over the beta and shoved the broken end deep into the alpha's chest. The wet gurgle behind me told me the elder was safe, but I didn't wait to make sure.

At the edge of the fight, Byriel crawled low and slow over a jut of rocks. Following his movements, I crept next to him. He didn't move to look at me, but I was sure he could sense my familiar presence.

Blue was just in front of us, with three alphas in their human-form blocking our path. Byriel's muscles twitched with restless energy, and I grabbed his shoulder to keep him in place. If he rushed those guards, Blue would surely be hurt. The omega was too close to the other alphas with no easy escape.

Hitching my thumb to the side, I motioned for Byriel to move around, closer to Blue. Pointing at the omega, I jerked my hand into a quick fist, indicating he needed to grab Blue while I fought the fuckers off. He nodded and slowly crawled back.

I watched him slip through the grass, circling wide to the other side.

The fight roared behind me. The smell of burnt wood and blood flooded the colorful space, followed by the sound of fire crackling and horrific screams—some Alphas, mostly Betas. But none of the voices were Tzidal, so I kept my eyes on Blue.

"Calm down there, little Omega," a squat alpha with a shaved head inched closer to Blue.

Blue shivered and stuttered, his knees visibly shaking. His movements were so unsteady I half expected him to fall to the ground.

The other two alphas leered at him, stepping closer. None of the wolves I passed seemed to be claiming any of the omegas for their own. None had forced bonds or seemed to be abducting mates, but that didn't mean shit in war. Any one of these alphas might abandon their orders—whatever they were—at any moment to sink their teeth into Blue's neck.

An unclaimed omega was simply too tempting for most alphas to pass up. There was a reason omegas lived within the safety of villages.

"What, what do you want?" Blue asked, keeping his eyes down and arms wrapped tight around his chest.

"Calm down. This will be quick." A fierce, blond wolf smiled, but there was nothing friendly about his blood-stained teeth.

Blue squeezed his eyes tight and turned his head away, exposing the side of his neck. "What, what do you want?" he asked louder as a stream of tears rolled down his cheeks. The smell of his distress was harsh and made me want to lurch forward, but I stayed put, waiting for Byriel to get a little closer.

"Come on," the third wolf whined. "He's a weak one. Just force him so we can move on."

The blond wolf stepped closer, his dominance pouring into every word. "Do you have a mark on your skin?"

"No!" The word burst out of Blue as he submitted to the commanding nature of the alphas around him.

"No?" the bald alpha snarled, baring his teeth.

A sob burst from Blue's throat as he struggled to speak again, shaking his head violently.

"Just do it," the third alpha yelled.
